This aptly named island gets a lot of beating from the harsh weather and raw force of nature present in the Gulf of Alaska. During the years surrounding World War II this little island was the home of Fort Bulkley a fortified outpost that hosted US soldiers who kept watch for potential invaders coming in from the Pacific ocean.

Your hike will begin from the dock and follow a gentle path to the gulf-facing side of the island where the fort is located.

Your guides will share their knowledge of the area with you as you walk along the trail, including amazing details about the islands rich and historical past. You will also receive complimentary hiking poles, a day hiking pack (if needed) transportation from the downtown Seward-based office, and organic snacks & hot drinks.

Things you should bring along for your hike include; warm synthetic layers, warm wool socks, hiking boots or sneakers, a day hiking pack if you have one (if not one can be supplied for you for use on the hike), rain gear (can be rented from shop in needed) a refillable water bottle, camera and of course a positive attitude!
