My name is Ed King and I 'm a freelance, fine art, landscape and seascape photographer www.02809photo.com living in Bristol, Rhode Island with my wife Karen and our three kids. I love creating and sharing the world around us and it has become one of my greatest passions being able to produce photographs and prints that others can enjoy.
If the people who know you were asked to describe you, what would they say?
I would have to say motivated, dedicated, passionate and extreme, my good friend Mike jokes about my passion level and nicknamed me Eddie Extreme. I live by the thought that if I am going to commit I am going to do whatever it is head-on with complete drive and enthusiasm, some friends say it's pretty hard to catch up because I'm usually going full speed.
Who's had the greatest influence on your life and why?
There is no doubt my grandfather had the greatest influence and now as I get older I start to see more traits of his in myself. My grandfather had an extreme love of nature and use to record and catalog his recorded nature shows, although I am not recording I am always learning and exploring when it comes to my love with nature. I know if he was alive today he would love to see my work in photography.
What's important in your life?
My family is most important to me and making sure I've instilled that sense of family to my kids, growing up as an only child I take pride in seeing my kids together.
What's a secret ambition of yours?
I really want to have the ability to capture and document some of the most incredible views in the United States, many of which I feel can be found within our National Parks. I spend a great deal of time planning for these trips that I hope one day to be able to complete.
What principles have guided your life?
I feel being as understanding and fair as possible and helping others in their goals and dreams.
Where do you find serenity?
That is really easy for me, it is sitting on location watching the cover of the night sky give way to that beautiful pre-dawn light, that is serenity and I always often wonder why there aren't more people enjoying that special time.
What's your idea of a good time?
My wife laughs; she said I want to hear this one. Honestly, it doesn't take much for me to have a good time, it doesn't require a need for a lot of money but a really good time would be having the opportunity to see and capture the country with my family.
What do you still want to accomplish before you die?
I want to be able to spend more time traveling and photographing more of the United States, having the ability to photograph each state would be a big accomplishment for me.
If your life were a motion picture, what would the title be?
Pushing the limits and racing to the edge.
What are the advantages of getting older?
As I've gotten older I have paid more attention to what really motivates me and what I truly enjoy and appreciate. As an example, when I was younger a sunrise was just a sunrise, a bird was just a bird, I never paid attention to the little things nor did I pay attention to what life would be like if we didn't protect open space and the environment. I think as I get older I have the opportunity to share these experiences with others and possibly they will appreciate things earlier on.
