Great Accommodations, Unparalleled Hospitality

Absolutely fantastic - the hospitality at Salt Cottages is unmatched, plus the accommodations are great. We had an extremely well-appointed 1 BR that simply oozed vacation comfort, but the highlight was the hospitality. Every member of the team that we interacted with was genuine in their interest in us, our stay at the property and our stay in the area. Whether it was service at Picnic, the s'mores activity or the 8 PM ghost story, everyone took the time to inquire about our stay. Beyond that, the grounds have everything a family could want after coming home from a long day hiking Acadia or exploring Bar Harbor. Highly recommend.

Lovely, sea-themed cottages

We had a wonderful time in Bar Harbor and at Salt Cottages. We stayed in a 1-bedroom ocean view cottage at Salt Cottages. They all have little names and ours was called "Wonderland." We loved that it had a dedicated parking spot. The cottages are in a great location (just a few miles from town) and have a lovely design. But I think the "ocean view" refers to what you can see from the street in FRONT of the cottage as the bay is down a long driveway and across the street. Inside, the bed was quite comfortable. The layout was spacious and had nice furnishings and room for a family to hang out. It was also decorated with adorable little seaworthy knickknacks. (The seashell collection in the bathroom was a source of fascination for both me and my kids.) There's a little kitchen area with a fridge, sink, and some shelves to store snacks. (Maybe a microwave too?) It was very useful when traveling with kids! The bathroom was clean and the water pressure was nice. There was also air conditioning if you wish or a screen door if you prefer a breeze. I did wish that the curtains in the living room provided a little more coverage to keep the sun out in the morning, which mainly matters if you try to use the sofa bed. Our kids enjoyed the lawn games, the VW bus at the entrance, and the nightly s'mores by the pool. We also enjoyed the pool and the lounging area. And the available ice cream at Picnic. Picnic had a nice selection of kid-friendly food (cheeseburgers, breakfast sandwiches, etc.) plus fresh pastries and other snickety snacks. And the people working there were very friendly--they'd even bring your food out to the patio or the pool or pack it for takeout since each cottage had its own little picnic table. The food was a little pricey compared to other things in the area, but not out of proportion for hotel food. The cottages are also walking distance to a few restaurants. Overall, we had a lovely time and made some happy memories here. Our son is already talking about coming back next year. I will say that the one big source of frustration was the lack of housekeeping. I found it very strange that, for an accommodation at this price point, it was so hard to get housekeeping service. Bar Harbor is an active place and we're out hiking in the dirt and playing in the sand. So, it would be nice to have a vacuum run or the sheets changed each day. Because there are no phones in the room, we walked over to the office every single day to ask specifically for service and to let them know that we would be out of the room for the next several hours. But we would come back and find that no one had come. We only ended up getting service ONCE during the week. Every other day, we had to schlep back to the office at the end of the day and ask someone to come by to provide clean towels and empty our trash. I was a little peeved to have to be dealing with this every day of my vacation because this is honestly part of the service that we're paying for. And when I tried to express this to the front desk about this, they were KIND OF apologetic but acted like the process was entirely out of their hands and that they couldn't do anything beyond typing a request into the computer. It was very odd and definitely the greatest source of frustration on the trip. I really hope they get this process worked out before next summer.

The property and cottages are immaculate. Everything was neat and clean. Loved the cottage. Perfect for relaxing after a day of hiking. Location is great! Easy to access all the touristy places but still peaceful and quiet. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Would absolutely come back again!

Salt Cottages exceeded every expectation we had! The incredible attention to details shows in every aspect of this beautiful property. The adult summer camp vibe is carried out throughout. Generous accommodations thoughtfully appointed for a comfortable stay inside and out. The location is minutes from everything and a nice break from the bustling downtown of Bar Harbor. We found the staff to be friendly and engaged in making sure guests were comfortable and happy. Spotless property with lovely landscaping and cottage decor. Plenty of room for guests to spread out and relax. An ocean view adds to the overall ambiance. Make this a must stay if you are visiting the Bar Harbor area!!

This place was adorable and amazing. The cottages are SO cute and very well stocked, the pool was warm, and the hot tubs were hot (maybe too hot?!). I loved the small touches that they did, like the champagne/soda upon arrival and the nightly fun smores. It’s in a perfect location. About 3 min from the Acadia entrance/visitor center and about 6min from bar harbor. It was a really easy drive to all the main spots in Acadia (Acadia is pretty spread out, fyi). My only complaint is they seem like they need more staff working the food counter, and it’d be nice if breakfast could start a tad earlier for the early hikers).
