Sequoia spans over 400,000 acres and contains in its area the highest point in the contiguous 48 states, Mount Whitney at 14,505 feet above sea level. The park is just south of, and connected to, Kings Canyon National Park. it is home to the General Sherman tree, the largest living tree in the world and the largest living organism by volume. The tree is something that needs to be seen in real life to adequately comprehend.
 
Visitors to Sequoia National Park will be able to view awe-inspiring scenery found very few places on earth. Campgrounds and picnic areas are found throughout much of the area, and visitors can enjoy cool swimming holes, go fishing and snowshoeing, and stargaze after sunset. The park has more than 800 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to strenuous; these include the more well-known John Muir Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. No matter the season, there is something for everyone to enjoy at Sequoia National Park.
