Relaxing stay near Sequoia National Park

We were met by the owner on arrival who took us on a tour of the property and then onto our room. The room was spacious and well lit. It included a refrigerator and coffee maker. There was a ceiling fan in the room. The bathroom was large and there were plenty of nice linens available along with complimentary toiletries. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was nice. Although conveniently located on the main highway through town, the road noise was minimal. Parking was available close to the room. There are several eating spots nearby that are a short drive but not walking distance. If you are looking for a relaxing stay close to the Sequoia National Park, then look no further than the Rio Sierra Riverhouse. This was not a problem for us, but if a traveler has some mobility issues, be aware that there are stairs which must be negotiated when going to the rooms or moving about the property. We hope to return and stay longer some day.

There is a lot to love about Rio Sierra. Close to Sequoia's southern entrance, great spot to enjoy the river and Mars is very helpful. We stayed in the Garden Room and the road noise is noticeable. Also, I used Booking.com and they use "Queen Studio" to describe the Garden Room. I thought I was booking the River Studio so that was a minor disappointment. The river was a great way to cool off in the 95 degree heat. We had a lovely breakfast Al Fresco (excellent coffee) before heading back to Sequoia for more exploring.

Just wished I had a river view room, my bad.

Ok, so booked this ages ago through a third party and made the mistake of not flagging our 30th wedding anniversary nor requesting a river view room (DOH!!!). I did ask, but the property was fully booked and Mars was very apologetic for my fault. We had a superb welcome from Mars, just like the choccie bar yummy!! She was also so full of knowledge and offers for the location, even told us to use a different road to get to the top T of kings canyon that saved 20+ minutes, although the road is a little fun to drive! We had room 3, road facing, but no real issues with noise. We did not purchase breakfast which was an additional $18pp. Room was good size, with fridge, T&C machine, but no iron or board (they probably were available). The bathroom was nice, with Bergman Kelly toiletries, although you need a degree to work out the shower controls (well I did!!). The property is very close to Sequoia national park and other facilities in town. The main attraction is the river in the back garden, with rapids, so some care needed, unless you are local children with absolutely no fear!! Lovely different seating areas around the river which was very nice. One slight downsdie, you can hear people in other rooms and sadly we had noisy children which slightly spoiled our stay. However, great host, lovely location and great for the parks. Highly recommended.

We stayed in the Master Suite for one night before going to the park, the view and sound of the river is spectacular. The space was large and comfortable, Mars was a great host and the breakfast was out by the river amazing.

Mars is the best host: gave us ideas of where to visit in Sequoia National Park, and contacted us the day of our arrival to ensure our room was ready. She ran out to greet us, even though we arrived an hour late because of our adventurous drive down from the park. Mars made us feel so welcome. I love to stay in nice resorts, and though this is NOT a fancy place- it is one of the nicest places I’ve stayed. Freshly cut flowers; with several private terraces overlooking the rapids. There are two areas where bonfires are made every evening. She asked if we wanted to have breakfast the next day for $18/person. Though at first, I was like – that’s a lot. But then I thought, yeah there was free breakfast at the last place I had stayed, but I also had paid $150 more a night at that resort. We set our own time, and the next morning at 8:00 am, we were escorted by Deborah to a delightfully decorated round table overlooking the river. She had prepared everything for us. OJ, coffee, scrambled eggs, bagels with 4 different kinds of spreads, fresh fruit (seasoned with cinnamon), Greek Yogurt, granola, a cheese and meat tray with avocado slices, and cinnamon coffee cake. We took what we couldn’t finish and had it for lunch later that day. There are many areas on the property to be alone, watch the river, and just relax. While sitting under the canopy of flowers on Adirondack Chairs just above the river, my husband said that this was one of the most enjoyable places/vacations he has been on.
