Yosemite weather is fairly predictable year round. In the summer months, approximately June through September you will find that the weather here is typically sunny. The spring can be rainy and chilly. While the winter can be somewhat turbulent with storms prone to come out of nowhere fast.
Summer temperatures reach up into the 90’s during the hottest months which are July-August. Summer rainfall is rare with the lowest amount being reached in July and August. During the summer you will want to wear layers however because lows in the night can become quite a chilly temperature dipping down into the ’50s. It is recommended that you wear a light fabric under-layer with a sweater a jacket when you leave your accommodations in the morning and start to peel off layers as the day progresses.
Spring and fall are transitional months in Yosemite. This is a time when warm, sunny days can suddenly become stormy. Yosemite weather during these seasons is highly variable, with typical high temperatures ranging from the 50s to 70s, with lows in the 30s. Rain is less likely early in fall/late in spring and rain or snow is likely late in fall/early in spring.
Winter weather is almost as predictable as the summer because you can count on snowy, rainy days with highs ranging from the 30s to 50s and lows in the upper 20s. In the winter you want to be sure to bring heavier weight clothing. Bring long pants and long-sleeved shirts. If you are planning on hiking in the winter make sure you have hats and gloves along – even if they are just inside your backpack. Do not plan on wandering far from populated areas just because of the possibility of sudden storms.
Before you venture into the park you will do well to call the ranger stations and find out what the Yosemite weather is going to be like during your stay. This will save you valuable space in your luggage as well as prepare you to have a more enjoyable time while you are here.
