I should have paid more attention to the reviews.

I figured staying in the most recently updated room, that it would be ok. The bed was comfy, but the room was dark. The ONLY light in the room was one small lamp on one nightstand. The bathroom looked lovely, until you looked at the walls which need to be painted. The worst part was the COLD SHOWER. When checking in the desk clerk said the only restaurants in town were a Mexican place across the street and a pizza joint down the block. In reality, the saloon next door had food, even breakfast. And the competing Charlotte hotel across the street had a great tavern with very good food and live music. Caveat Emptor.

Fire Alarms? Really?

I would have rated this higher but my sleep was interrupted TWICE in the same night by the hotel fire alarm going off! Very loud and obnoxious alarm required everyone to exit the hotel in the middle of the night. Both were false alarms but still very annoying. The hotel is very quaint, staff are friendly and accommodating. A bit overpriced in my opinion. It's a very old hotel, so paper thin walls and wooden floors make it not very quiet, but that's part of the heritage experience.

I really wanted to like this place. For $250 a night my expectations were high, unfortunately, they were not met. Unlike their website says, there was no welcome drink, I never even ran into any staff. Each morning no one was at the front desk. An errant fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, and we all stood outside for 20 minutes even though the fire department is across the street. No one reached out to us to apologize. When we woke up, the power went out in the whole town. We waited a half hour and then went to Yosemite. Again, no one reached out to us to tell us the situation or what happened. The toiletries were placed on the shower floor, it would be great to add a caddy hanging from the shower head for them. There was no kleenex, no TV unless you signed into your own streaming accounts, the air conditioning didn’t work and the room was stuffy. I wish there had been less furniture in the tiny room to move around better. The internet worked for about 20 minutes and then seemed to start to limit us. The updates to the decor are great, but it would also be great to get a little more attention for such a steep price in that location.

there was never anyone available to help us on the premise. After making it to the room we were amazed at the accommodations. There was no closets, no chair, no table, the room was next to main drag through town, noisy to say the least, the TV remote looked strange, we did figure out it was all streaming which we did not know how to navigate so essentially we didn’t have TV, the sink had a dark glass mirror with 2 yellowish lights that I couldn’t see well enough to shave, the shower was nice but the gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles were set on the floor because there was no shelf for them (when you are old it is hard to bend over), there was no maid service so we just asked for a couple of fresh washrags. No Kleenex. I had one cup of coffee the first morning but it wasn’t restocked with cream or sugar so had nothing the second morning. It’s all the little things that add up but the worst was making us climb stairs with luggage, no closet, no chair or table.. Overpriced at $474, half that would still be too much, indifferent staff, they all should be embarrassed, fix the things I talked about! I am a retired manager and it is obvious a lack of training and an absentee owner. I think that gate they put up at night when staff isn’t there might be a fire trap.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting with lots of shade trees. There is spacious outdoor dining and the rooms are well appointed. The host was accommodating when we needed extra bedding and a grouping of tables for dining.
