Grand Teton Park Frequently Asked Questions
Grand Teton Fast Facts?
On July 31, 2003, Jackson Lake Lodge was listed as a National Historic Landmark.
There are three main areas of Grand Teton National Park that each have unique characteristics. Visitors will appreciate knowing these differences ahead of time when choosing where to stay on their Grand Teton National Park vacation. Jackson, Teton Village and the area north of Grand Teton National Park near Moran, WY are all diverse areas to book your Grand Teton National Park lodging.
Jackson, or Jackson Hole as it is often called, has the largest year-round population of the three areas with over 8,600 residents. Staying in Jackson allows for many cultural opportunities such as art galleries, shopping, museums, restaurant choices and exploration. It is close to Snow King Mountain Ski Area and also a short distance to Grand Teton National Park. Jackson is where the action is with daily shoot-out reenactments and the Jackson Hole Rodeo on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Take a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge or visit the National Wildlife Museum or the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Jackson Hole is by far the most popular lodging destination for Grand Teton National Park visitors.
Teton Village is a great place to go to be enmeshed in a mountain resort ambiance. Summertime is just as exciting as winter in this year-round resort area. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort enjoys 4,000 vertical feet which equates to world class skiing and also exciting mountain biking and hiking opportunities. Teton Village is a compact recreation and entertainment haven that includes lots of shops, swimming pools, restaurants and an aerial tram 2.5 miles long. The luxurious lodging in the Teton Village is mostly ski-in ski-out which offers convenient access to the neighboring recreation.
Moran Junction and Colter offer more intimate and rustic resorts which are great for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The Colter area has a lot of rugged outdoor opportunities while being right on Jackson Lake. This provides for ample recreational activities to build your vacation upon. The Colter Bay District boasts access to several trail heads and close proximity to Yellowstone National Park via the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway that connects the two majestic parks. South of Jackson Lake is the most celebrated hiking in the area. The northern area of Grand Teton National Park is also conveniently close to the Bridger-Teton National Forest, otherwise known as the Teton Wilderness. This area is just as wild and rugged as the neighboring national parks but separately protected.
Visitors to Grand Teton National Park will do well to fit their vacation style to their lodging preferences.
