Kootenay National Park has been a Canadian park since 1920. The park is part of the Canadian Rockies and a part of the Kootenay River flows through the park. The entirety of the Vermillion River is contained within the park. The park offers a variety of sightseeing options by foot or by vehicle, the entirety of the park is centered around Highway 93 a very scenic stretch of highway also called the Banff-Windermere Highway. Hiking options are abundant ranging from novice to expert. Multi-day hikes or day hikes are located all along the highway.

Just outside of the southwestern entrance is the amazing Radium Hot Springs, Olive Lake, Sinclair Canyon, Marble Canyon, and the Paint Pots. The hot springs range from 35 to 47 °C (95 to 117 °F). A perfect place to relax and enjoy a soak after a day of sightseeing. The Paint Pots is a cold water mineral spring with vibrant yellow, red and brown colors. With the parks relatively small size, only five miles on each side of the highway, many of the attractions are near the road, making it accessible for any age. Highway 93 is 321 km (199 miles) long and 94 km (58.41 miles) is inside of the park so you will have plenty to enjoy and experience in the park.
