Rocky Mountain National Park - Colorado

* Park Alerts! * Perfectly wild, perfectly American, and just plain perfect. Rocky Mountain National Park is a place that demands to be seen! Read more...

Located in north-central Colorado just northwest of Boulder, Rocky Mountain National Park is an easy day trip from Denver International Airport or Eagle Airport in Aspen. Park headquarters at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center features a building designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and is one of five visitors centers. Take a ride through the park on the California Zephyr Amtrak Line; this train runs from California to Chicago and stops daily in Granby.

Once in the park, take a ride on the Trail Ridge Road during the summer. The road reaches elevations of over 12,000 feet above sea level and passes by protected herds of Rocky Mountain elk. Rent a powerboat and take a tour of Grand Lake, Colorado’s deepest and largest natural lake which is also part of the headwaters of the Colorado River. Take in the view of one of the park’s many 14,000-foot mountains including Longs Peak which is the park’s most imposing mountain. Attempt to climb Long’s Peak at your own risk; it’s not for the faint of heart or the unskilled, but many climbers do successfully summit each year.
