Grant Grove is a sequoia grove that is located in Kings Canyon National Park in the Sierra Nevada in eastern California. Kings Canyon is a large wilderness national park that features summits of the High Sierras and two enormous canyons on the Kings River. General Grant tree is located here; it is one of the five largest Giant Sequoias in known existence.
General Grant has an interesting history. In 1926 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed it the "Nation's Christmas Tree". It is also the only living object to be declared a "National Shrine." On March 29, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower made the General Grant tree a memorial to those who had died in the war. Recent estimates place the trees age at about 1,650 years old.
