Each of the rooms is tastefully appointed and completely unique. The original fifteen buildings were designed by California’s first female architect, Julia Morgan, and thirteen are still in use today. Some rooms have wood-burning fireplaces and provide the coziest, warmest ambiance when the fog rolls in on those cool Monterey Bay nights. Some have four twin beds for the kids to have the feeling of their own private domain while others have a single king bed for those most romantic getaways.
All buildings have unique names like Spindrift, Sea Galaxy, Manzanita, Surf, and Sand. All are lacking in those pesky modern distractions: telephones and televisions. Don’t worry about being entertained, though. Phoebe A. Hearst Social Hall has table tennis, billiards, a piano, card tables and board games. Each room is just a short walk down a weathered wood plank to Asilomar State Beach. Hungry for more? Dine in communal fashion in Crocker Dining Hall. The chefs make even the most important holidays like Thanksgiving seem homey and comforting. This resort is more than a place to stay. It’s a place to relax, unwind, reconnect, and make memories that will survive for generations.
