My wife and I had decided to host our wedding in the Adirondack area in 2009. Neither of us had spent much time in Saratoga Springs area but decided for our quest, we would begin in Saratoga Springs (staying at the Gideon) and drive through the Adirondack park visiting possible wedding locations. At the end of the journey, we both agreed we loved the Gideon most and it would be perfect for our wedding. For the next 6 months we traveled to Saratoga and stayed at the Gideon 5 or 6 more times to finish planning and enjoy the area. The wedding was perfection! The venue staff and chef left our guests to this day, still complimenting how perfect everything was. A deep love of the town and the hotel formed within us both and we have spent many nights at the Gideon while visiting the area over the past decade.

A gorgeous property in the middle of Saratoga Springs State Park. Beautiful hiking trails, springs and views. Clean and updated yet has the charm of the original hotel. We stay in the Saratoga area at least once to twice a year and this by far exceeded our expectations.

So, yes it's old, but when you enter the lobby it's smells musty and old, for about $400 a month you can get scent air and at least mask some of that unpleasant odor, our room was fine, except when it was prime time and we waited 20 minutes for the one elevator, since we were on the 5th floor it made it difficult, we did not enjoy our breakfast on the patio at all, the staff is very nice. The window A/C in our room was odd, but hey it's A/C, although we had the one room on the fifth floor that had no blinds in the windows, not sure why, but it makes it very difficult to sleep with the drapes closed when in one window is an A/C unit, we closed the drapes and woke up sweating, we opened the drapes and were up at the crack of dawn. Easy enough fix, think about it.

We stopped win for one night to check out the spa and surroundings for a future trip. The hotel is in the Saratoga Springs State Park. The hotel is old but well cared for. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room was small and had a double bed. There was a desk and chair, and a big bathroom. The heat was via radiator and there were two speeds, on and off. It got so warm we cracked a window. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was good. The menu had a good selection of items for dinner. We didn't use the spa facilities, but plan to go back and do so.

Room was clean and comfortable, staff were very courteous and helpful. The hotel restaurant was quite good, and reasonably priced. Price of our stay included a trip to the mineral baths, about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The bath facility includes steam rooms, massage and other services. The Park is beautiful (although a bit chilly in November), lots of trails. The hotel provides a shuttle van into Saratoga proper. Nice college town, lots of boutique shops and eateries.
