Nice hotel, but staffing issues.
This was a nice hotel, and the location was great, the rooms well maintained, and the breakfast was awesome, but the front desk, at check in, seemed complacent, and seemed indifferent to my arrival and stay. This was a redeemed point stay, and I had the distinct impression that reward stays are a low priority, in terms of room location preferences, etc. If a Platinum level member is feeling unwelcome, what does that mean for the person(s) who are non IHC members? The only other issues I had was the street noise, and why all the 4 pillows were huge and way too firm. Otherwise, there was the breakfast, and I salute the staff who provided an excellent breakfast. I appreciated them and the selection of hot food items for breakfast.

Terrible rooms and terrible service. The bathroom was dirty- hair on the floor and in the shower, mold/mildew on the ceilings, stains on the ceilings, half empty bottle of lotion left for us with us very disgusting. Floors were stained. Person above us stomped and banged all night long. Tried calling in the middle of the night with no luck. Reached the office at 6:20 am which is pretty early in the morning and was told it’s breakfast time so we basically have to deal with it. This is totally unacceptable and I will never stay here again!!

Clean and comfortable, close to Mesa Verde NP
Everything about this hotel was good for a one-night stay near Mesa Verde National Park. Quiet room, comfortable pillows and bed. Breakfast off the lobby area included hot and cold items. Zach gave a very friendly welcome upon arrival, and when I couldn’t get the in-room microwave to work a few minutes later, he came up immediately and got it fixed (just needed rebooting). As other reviewers have mentioned, this hotel has its own unique character with Native American touches in the lobby, rooms and common areas on each floor. Indian jewelry and crafts tables are set up each morning in the lobby.
The small bathroom vanity area would be hard for two people to share. Overall the room was clean and comfortable, with the usual basics including charging stations. Hotel parking is shared with an adjacent restaurant --- more parking only for hotel guests would be helpful.
My room was on the third floor overlooking the parking lot with an eastern view of distant mountains. Some rooms on the backside of the hotel face the indoor pool building and grass areas. Restaurants and gas stations are conveniently close by, and Route 145 is just down the road if you are heading north on the scenic highway towards Montrose.

Great family hotel
We stayed here on our road trip after visiting Mesa Verde and this is one of the best places we stayed.
Everything in the common areas and rooms was nicely decorated - lots of little Navajo inspired touches on things like the tiles, the mirrors, the fixtures. They also had some artisans selling jewelry in the lobby.
The elevator had a nice view as you go up, and the pool and hot tub was in a very nice building and we loved it. The hot tub was very nice and adjacent to the pool so it was quite easy to keep an eye on the kids while relaxing.
But the best part, in my kids' eyes, was that the family suite we booked contained a separate, semi-walled off bunk area just for them with bunk beds, their own TV and a PS2 with several games. After more than a week on the road for our road trip they were thrilled to see video games again.

Recently had excellent stay at the Holiday Inn Express Cortez.
All the basics were there-clean room, comfortable bed/pillows, the room itself was a good size, bathroom & shower were great. Breakfast each morning was even better-truly excellent, with great selection.
And the staff at the hotel, to a person, were friendly, efficient, and eager to assist.
There's also an indoor pool-didn't use, but several families with kids did and enjoyed it very much.
