Noisy

This property has a lot going for it, but it is very noisy. Right after I checked in and was heading to my room, I could hear children running up and down the hallway above me. Later, in my room, I could hear every step taken by the people above me. I also could hear people talking in the next room as well as out in the hallway. This property could have been wonderful if Holiday Inn had invested a few more dollars in soundproofing the rooms. It’s well located — close to downtown Cortez and convenient to Mesa Verde national Park. The property is well maintained and well laid out. However, based on the noise, I will look elsewhere next time I visit Cortez.

Rude front desk staff.

Terrible customer service. We booked through a 3rd party, and were told the hotel 100% has the option to issue a refund as an exception, but they refused even though we had driven all the way there to talk to them in person after trying to call them 5 times and no one answering. The ladies at the desk were super dismissive, one of the even holding her hand up to “shush” me. Really disappointed. We’ve stayed there before and may have again as this is a trip we make often, but now— no way! It’s sad that people can’t change plans nowadays— life is short.

Reeks of Mildew

I'm very sensitive to mold. As soon as the lobby doors open I was hit with a strong mildew smell which permeated the lobby. Even my husband who normally doesn't notice mildew could smell it. Do not stay here if you are sensitive to mold. This hotel reeked of mildew more than any hotel I've ever been in. We walked across the street and stayed elsewhere.

Best hotel close to the Mesa Verde NP

Best hotel close to Mesa Verde NP. Destination Grill across the driveway is closed. If you get the 9AM Cliff Palace tickets tour you can easily make it. Breakfast is at 6:30AM and some items are set out even before that time. One hour drive from hotel to Cliff Palace overlook. Which is where you meet the Ranger. Not on the street level or at the shaded benches but down the path and steps to the overlook. Take your photos of an empty Cliff Palace site. Consider parking past the toilets at the exit for the hike, so to avoid walking back to the entrance down to the overlook after your hike.

This Hotel was awesome. I am an IHG Rewards member and was very impressed with this hotel. The room was clean and fresh, the bedding was top notch, and I slept like a baby. There were also Najavo tribal members doing jewelry making the lobby, cool! Would stay here again if I ever get back to Cortez, Colorado.
