Unscrupulous Business Practices
If you believe in fair and decent treatment of customs, do not book at this hotel. We, along with another couple, had reservations to stay here last April. Two days before our departure from home, my husband suffered a serious accident and could not travel -- doctor's orders from the hospital. We notified the hotel the very next business day. Instead of refunding us our deposit of $280, the hotel immediately charged our card for an additional $667, without our authorization, for the nights we had not yet stayed!! When we phoned, we were told that the hotel had a 12-day cancellation period, and we were giving them only 7 days' notice. However, they told us they would give us a rain check for any future stay. My husband has now recovered from his injuries so we recently contacted the hotel to reserve for October dates. My husband had to make numerous attempts to speak with the manager concerning the promised rain check; the hotel is now refusing to honor their promised credit of $519, which they had charged our card, using the lame excuse that "rain checks are not valid for October, weekends or holidays." What kind of a rain check is that?
Because of my husband's accident, we had to cancel with a number of hotels. Most of the businesses were very sorry and could not have been more cooperative or nicer with their refunds. In stark contrast, we found the Buckhorn's management surprisingly nasty, unkind and unfair. What I have described here is only PART of our negative experience with this hotel; there is much more to this story, but I do not wish to make this review even longer.
Note: This review page requires that i check when we traveled; clearly, we were unable to travel. I marked "April" only because that was when we had originally booked.

Very friendly staff and beautiful inn
We love this place. Second visit and not disappointed. The staff and the owners seem genuinely happy that we were there. Love the surrounding area behind the inn. Ate at the lovely Wild Plum Tea Room just past the Inn and bought lovely items at the craft shops. Nothing junky about this area of Gatlinburg. Beautiful dinners and breakfasts. Just perfect. We love traditional rooms #2 and 3. 3 is larger. Not a place for kids however. Very grown up retreat!

Quite Nice but...
My husband & I recently stayed 2 nights and I have struggled about how to write this review
Pros: Beautiful setting just outside (awful) Gatlinburg. We had a huge suite that even included a w/d (wonderful surprise) and a ceiling fan in the bedroom. The inn has a lovely dining room with a fireplace and a stunning view. Good value for the money.
Cons: Although the suite was comfortable, the decor was a tad dated (for our taste). We could never get the TV to work (which seems to be a common problem in hotels). The food was OK, but at dinner one night the vegetables were un-edible.
The most unsettling issue was something not so black and white. Upon leaving, my husband said; "They were not very friendly." I responded that I had the same reaction. Although nothing rude or impolite was said, there was a general sense of coldness and disdain. It was hard not come away thinking they were not pleased having an older gay couple as guests. If we had not observed other guests being treated much more warmly we might not have gotten this impression.
We travel often and usually are the only gay couple in residence. Thankfully, we have very seldom run into any issues. And we are always grateful for great service and a genuine welcome. It was interesting that both of us came way with the same feeling, although we had not mentioned it to each other during the stay.
There was a lot to like about the Buckhorn Inn and I do recommend it with some caution. .

4th July week
This place is truly a relaxing and meticulously clean enjoyable gem. I have had many trips to the area but this was a brief one night visit before moving into a cabin to meet up with family. I cant wait to return. Beautiful easy hiking and views are great. Staff makes you feel so welcome. Food was delicious. Top of the line facility.

Wonderful in EVERY Way!
There really aren't enough superlatives when writing about our stay at the wonderful Buckhorn Inn. Everything was perfect...as usual. We have been visiting there since 2011 when we "discovered" it online...fell in love with it immediately and have been returning multiple times during the year since then. Accommodations are so comfortable and offer any type of space you want: standard rooms, premier rooms, cottages, and houses. My husband and I have stayed in every type of accommodation, and we can attest to the fact that they are all great in their own way. We presently stay in one of the 7 cottages because we really like the space. The food is gourmet...what else can I say?....absolutely fabulous. The inn itself is beautifully appointed...and the landscaping is gorgeous. There are wonderful views of the Smoky Mountains. The whole experience is one of unassuming luxury.
