Just book it! If you are going to visit Mt Rushmore and want to stay in lodge style hotel that is quietly nestled nearby in the woods surrounded by nature - this is it! Incredibly scenic and quiet but somehow only maybe 1/2 mile from busy Keystone and minutes from Mount Rushmore. Pay a bit extra when booking to get a room with balcony that faces the Mt Rushmore profile -- well worth it! The breakfast (included) was far and above better than any other hotel I've ever visited that included breakfast. They also have a pub/casual restaurant on-site for dinner with burgers, sandwiches, pub style food all at a reasonable price for a tourist area. Service was great, friendly, polite. Clean rooms with appropriate decor (lodge vibe). While you are there, take a few minutes to walk the grounds and look around at nature (I saw several deer on the grounds). Glad I booked this hotel, it was one of the highlights of my trip to Mt Rushmore.

We stayed two nights at this beautiful hotel. The grounds are beautiful. Everything is kept up and updated. Our room was in the main lodge area on the second floor. It was so clean. There is nothing we can say negative about this place. The breakfast that comes with the rooms is above the rest of the hotels. Fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs bacon and even ham on Sunday morning. It was just outstanding. We loved it here. We even enjoyed the fire pit in the evening with the chairs around the pit. It is a 10 out of 10!

Wonderful stay close to Mt Rushmore

I dont understand the negative reviews. I guess you just can't make some people happy. The facility and our room were excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful with useful recommendations. Really a nice setting with great views from our room. Perfect spot to stay when visiting Mt Rushmore and the Black Hills. Highly recommend.

Giving this extremely well located hotel 5 stars although the rooms are fairly small and showing some age. We stayed in the main lodge in a room with a distant view of Mt. Rushmore. But you see the mountain mainly from the non-carved side - although Washington is visible on the far left. Still the setting/view was excellent because the property is so well maintained. A highlight was the buffet breakfast - more hot and cold choices than you would expect and wonderfully fresh and well prepared. The pub and bar is a spartan, no-frills place but the food was good and the service was above average.

Good location, beautiful surroundings but just ok

Great location and beautiful surroundings. The front desk people were very nice and helpful. Otherwise that was the best part. The bed was uncomfortable, the room was pretty small and weirdly the sink was not in the bathroom. It was just inside the entry door. In order to wash hands after any bathroom use, you had to open the bathroom door. When first going to our room I also thought the hall smelled like pot. The breakfast was tasty but in a very small area. Also watch your toast, while my family member was toasting an English muffin they turned there back for a moment and someone snatched half of it. Maybe it was the load of tour bus people that swarmed the breakfast area. The room we had was a forest view. Really just the view of a wooded hill. It was pretty still since you could go back to the main building to view the lighted monument at 9PM or walk around the grounds. One thing I didn't like was that in the main lobby, there were two people that I saw that were walking around in their bare feet. This was quite unsanitary and oddly dorm like even though these two people were over 60 and not together. Please were shoes, you can be barefoot in your room or at home.
