As I read through some of the reviews, I'm wondering if some of them are talking about the same place we stayed. In my case, everything about the stay was excellent. The front desk employees were very friendly upon checking in and out, the lodge and our room was very clean, the food we had at Horizons for dinner and breakfast was delicious. The view from our fourth floor window was beautiful. I would definitely recommend the lodge to friends and family.

Great place for a get together

We made reservations several months ago for a cousins get together, three of us rented a cottage and four of us rented a room in the lodge. We were very excited to check out the new cottages and boy were they nice! It was a two bedroom one bath cottage with a living room and fireplace it had a pull out couch two chairs and a nice coffee table. There was also a coffee pot a refrigerator and microwave and an icemaker and a couple coffee mugs glasses and plates. There was plenty of room for the three of us there is also a fire pit with several chairs out front, a picnic table and a grill. The cottages are kind of expensive, the ones by the lake cost more so we opted for one in the back which was a little cheaper I was a little worried but when we got there it was nice we had a beautiful view of the lake even though it was further back. I heard a lot of negative things about the people at the front desk but let me tell you they were super nice and super accommodating! I was told the pool would be open depending on the weather, but when we got there it was closed which was kind of a bummer because it was a beautiful day but we hung out by the lake got some great photos of the sunset and we really had a great time! We will be back!

Came to relax. Left with a headache.

Stayed in one of their cabins recently. NOT worth the money. I've enjoyed luxury cabins at this same price point and believe me when I tell you, nothing about these are close in comparison. The cabins are new and that's where it ends. Expect them to be real junky in a couple of years due to the extremely below average construction. That's what happens when you go with the lowest bidder. I guess I could have called maintenance to resolve these issues but they probably would have been there my entire stay fixing things. There are bikes for you to use. Good luck trying to find one that doesn't have loose handlebars, a flat tire or broken down. Housekeeping is a joke. One day I got clean towels (only because I asked) that's it. Other days, clean towels and bed made. Since I was sitting on the porch, I got a first row view of housekeeping in action. Bring your own cleaning and disinfecting supplies, because cleaning goes super fast after check outs. I'm quite sure that there is no real cleaning. It just made to look clean at a bare minimum. It claims to be a non-smoking property which is another reason I booked here. However, if you are a smoker, go ahead and smoke on the properly because everybody else does. There is no presence of security or staff checking around the at any time. The inside of the cabin has a very hard and uncomfortable couch. It's a foldout bed. The other two chairs are even more uncomfortable. They remind me of medical waiting room chairs intended for short term sitting. The bed is rock hard. Designed to last into the next century. Same for the pillows. Some guests jam pack the cabins with people to the max and more. Since there's no comfortable place to eat inside, they all congregate very loudly outside smoking and drinking. If all that isn't enough, how would you like to listen to SCREAMING kids all day long. Think shrill, high-pitched little girl screaming. Don't get too excited when they check out, because there will be more behind them. We didn't get to use the pool because the same screaming was over there as well. Really, there's no relaxing. It's like staying at a daycare. The staff. Another joke. Disengaged. Nobody knows anything or can answer anything because it's not in front of their noses. This is a reflection of management and supervisors. Very frustrating. Needless to say this was a HUGE waste of money for me and I will NEVER (even for free) go back.

My wife came here 3 years ago. We love the lake views. Each year we have returned. This being year three. The sunsets over the lake are spectacular and any photographer's dream. Great places all around the property to get lost in some literature. The pools are well maintained and the place is very clean. The employees are helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this Lodge/Hotel.

Very disappointing. Our room and the common areas were filthy. I should have been suspicious when the girl at check in asked me to forgo housekeeping for the duration of our stay..."For the environment!" of course. I told her I was not comfortable with making that decision at this time, and would definitely still like housekeeping services. (We never request fresh linens during our stay, but I'm on vacation, so I appreciate housekeeping.) When we arrived to our room, there was a dark sticky substance all over the table. I planned to go to the front desk but passed a housekeeper in the hall, and when I asked about the dirty table she handed me a rag out of a bag. At first I took it dumbfounded, thinking she just gave me a used rag. when I gathered my thoughts I asked about cleaner and she took it back, sprayed it with something from her cart, and handed it back to me. I cleaned my table and went to return the rag to the front desk. The girl acted like I was interrupting her, even though nobody else was in line. I said I'm returning the rag housekeeping gave me to clean my table, and she picket it up with two fingers as though it were gross. I wanted to say "right?" but refrained. The floors and walls had layers of dust and desiccated insect carcasses everywhere. This was not fresh dirt. Clearly there was a cleaning issue. The next day housekeeping did not come to our room. We were in and out, changing for the different activities and I noticed we were low on Toilet paper. There was no spare roll. I mentioned it to the housekeeper (Different one from the previous day) When we returned again, (After 3:00 and house keeping carts all put away indicating they were done for the day) the room had still not been cleaned and TP not brought. My husband went to the front desk this time and requested housekeeping to address our room. when we returned this time the room was straitened, But towels on bathroom floor not refreshed and no TP...and now we are officially out of TP. Husband went to front desk and they quickly sent some up. Housekeeper picked up towels and brought cart with more. We purchased a Bed and breakfast package. Nobody at check in explained how this worked. There was a voucher but we were not made aware of it. There was no guide in the room to the facility like EVERY other place I've ever stayed had. Where is the ice machine? laundry facilities? what time do you light the fire? what time is breakfast served. Common things said during check ins everywhere else I've been. Like so many questions, no place to get answers, just poor customer service. Now for the good. The property itself is very naturally beautiful. There were many trails in the state park we were able to hike, the state park beach was beautiful and close, a brief walk along the Lake. There were bikes to ride on the well maintained path and we had a great time doing that with our daughter. The outdoor pool was spectacular. There was a drink and snack station there that served delicious drinks. The girl working there was awesome. Avon, in the gift shop, Becky at the front desk, and Alice in Housekeeping were excellent. Too bad we didn't meet them the first day. The Horizons restaurant was awesome. It was so good I suspect the two establishment have separate managers? The customer service was perfect, anticipating our needs before we asked. Food was delicious. It was here we learned about the vouchers. When we ordered a take out pizza the last night, The girl who took the order was quick to tell us what door to use at pick up and where to find the hostess stand. (Awesome! thankyou) I will say it was not easy to find the number to call the pizza order in. The number for the lodge listed on the website took us through a clunky phone tree and when we pushed the corresponding numbers to route us to the Horizons, we were disconnected twice. We finally googled it and called through the trip advisor link. It was answered on the first ring.
