There's not alot of places to choose from that look halfway decent. It's close to the entrance to the national park. The front desk lady wasn't too friendly. To have our room ready earlier than checkin time was $25. I don't think she even checked to see if it was already ready. When we got to the room, the housekeeper did not make a good impression with us. His pants were halfway down his butt while cleaning rooms. Kinda disgusting. Didn't give us a good feeling about the cleanliness of the room and just the hotel itself. I don't think the bedspread and shams were washed. We didn't touch it. The other staff was very friendly. The pizza was very good at the restaurant in the hotel. It was nice they left a little treat for a birthday we were celebrating. Ample parking. It was fine for staying a night. I probably won't be back.

Cool Getaway

The Gateway Inn room and bathroom was spacious. Decor was modern and rustic. We were pleased that the room had a very comfortable bed. Our room did not have a balcony; however, we were seldom in the room. Loved the dining area as it had lots of windows with a terrific view of lake and mountains. Nice to have a cafe onsite and food was good. There was also a hug deck outside the dining area with the same great view. Just a few blocks from the main downtown so it was an easy walk. The west entrance to the Rocky Mtn Natl Park was just about a mile from the inn. Be sure to get an entrance permit online. The inn is a little pricey, but we would probably save up and stay there again.

What a great hotel!!!!

Stayed here to attend my grandson's wedding in Grand Lake 6/10 to 6/13/22. Daniel was hotel clerk and was WONDERFUL. Went out of his way to help us with anything we needed from reservations, directions, to food. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable, some of the other clerks were not so knowledgeable so it made a difference with him! Only problem was if calling Gateway had to hold sometime for 1/2 hour as they are doing double-duty jobs there. We also met the owner, who was very gracious and seemed to put his heart into his hotel. We had room 223 and would highly recommend it, had a balcony, lake view and very clean and yet rustic look for the place. Say the "penthouse" and it is beautiful, great room for a family or couples stay!

We were traveling to Grand Lake from Boulder via Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park on US-34. At the time of our travel, Rocky Mountain National Park required a reservation to enter; the only time for the day of our travel I was able to reserve was 4 pm to 6 pm. Since the hotel had 48 hours cancellation policy, I checked the road conditions 48 hours prior to our check-in; there was no road closure at a time. However, when we got to the park around 4-4:30 pm we were told that US-34 was closed. I immediately contacted the hotel and was told by (I believe) Sherry Oliver, a rude and unpleasant hotel manager, that it was my responsibility to check on road conditions and cancel a reservation on time. I tried to explain that I did prior to the expiration of my reservation cancelation, but she didn’t care. She told me that we should take an alternative road which would take us another 3.5-4 hours to get to the hotel. This woman totally ignored my explanation that our time to enter the park was 4 pm-6 pm, that by the time we would be able to leave Estes Park and get to her hotel it would be way past midnight and that we already were driving all day. She simply didn’t care, so I told her that we would not be staying at that hotel. I managed to book a hotel in Estes Park to stay overnight. Around 9 pm girl called us from Gateway Inn to find out the time of our arrival. I told her that earlier I informed the manager that due to a road closure and late hour we would not be able to make it to a Grand Lake area. I also told her that due to unpredictable circumstances I would appreciate being fully refunded. The response was that the manager offered us credit to be used within (I believe) a couple of weeks; I explained to her that we lived in California and that there was no way we could/would come back within a couple of weeks, or months, or most likely years. We had a similar problem couple of years ago when one freeway was closed due to a road condition and another freeway was very congested. When I contacted the hotel manager, he understood the problem and fully refunded us even though the hotel didn’t have a cancelation policy at all. That is what I call great customer service and human treatment. I left a great review to the hotel and thank the manager for being a good and understanding person.

Loved everything about The Gateway Inn. Less than 5 minutes from the Grand Lake entrance to RMNP, charming family-owned hotel with a restaurant/bar on site, outdoor deck with beautiful views of mountains and lake. Staff were friendly from check-in to bar to restaurant. Food was delicious (and HUGE portions). Bed was very comfortable, room was clean and nicely stocked wit essentials.
