Ate lunch at the Glacier Park Lodge. Took nearly an hour (55 minutes) to drive to it from the West Glacier entrance. The lodge is an elegant old building, once the showcase of the park, built by the railroad back in the day. Huge, vaulted open space, all wooden construction, massive beams and uprights, all very dark. Gift shops along the front and a dining room at the end, bar/lounge across from the entrance. The place was very quiet – almost a tomb. Felt like we had stepped into a museum from the past. Dining room was closed for lunch, but we were able to get light fare (soups and sandwiches) served in the lounge. I had a cheddar beef burger with fries and a cup of roasted tomato soup. Wife had the elk bratwurst and substituted the soup for fries. We liked the soup and the fries were pretty good. The burger was good, not great. Wife didn’t like the elk brat much and was not happy that they put very hot mustard on the bun without asking.

A good location and beautiful historic building

My friends and I loved staying here. But remember that this hotel was built in 1913 and so don't expect rooms like you would find in the Hilton or many modern amenities. But the building is like nothing you'll see now--just one example is the Douglas Fir and Cedar poles that were cut and transported from Oregon and Washington which are gigantic and amazing to behold. The lobby and public places are stunning but the rooms are very basic. However ours was comfortable for three of us and was clean. The bathroom was hilarious--the shower was so tiny that you can barely turn around! There are no elevators, but we didn't find that to be a problem. The upsides far outweigh what you might consider the possible negatives of the room (which we were in only to sleep anyway): the verandas are a great place to sit outside, the breezeway chairs are so fun with a nice view, the pitch and putt course is very fun, the lobby is beautiful, and the staff are wonderful. We arrived by Amtrak and while the station is literally across the street, don't miss the chance to ride in the crazy station wagon! The restaurant is nice and I thought the food was good. The lodge is on reservation land so you can't go anywhere except the paved roads unless you get permission, but we had an easy walk into town. I was afraid it would be too remote, but we caught our Red Bus tour right there and the car rental location was across the street (next to the train station), so it was actually a good place to stay. I would recommend it.

Absolutely Awesome, built in 1913 by the railroad. The staff was extremley courteous & helpful. They picked me up at the train staion in a Red 1969 Checker Cab Limo. they also had a nice shuttle into the park which is one of the most scenic parks, many lakes & trails to hike Nice amenities including a golf course, pool , restaurant & gift shop.

Our family of four (parents and teens) didn't stay here, but we enjoyed a meal here and did some exploring. The property is beautiful and large. The lodge itself is very impressive - historic and gorgeous. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great food in the restaurant at the back with spectacular views! Gluten free options.
