This is the original lodge for the park. The logs in this lodge are amazing and huge! The lobby is worth seeing even if you don't stay here. Great place to spend the night and explore the east side or to be before driving the "Going to the Sun Road." Talk to the front desk and they will give you a map and places to see and hike in the area. The very basic sleeping rooms have a bathroom, which was hard to tell on their website. You won't be disappointed staying here, if you don't expect a luxury room.

My husband and I visited Glacier National Park for our 30th anniversary. He booked two nights at the Lodge, because of the history of the Lodge and the pictures of the lobby, which reminded him of the main lodge at Yellowstone. It was memorable all right. I would have left after the first night if I could have. But we would have lost one night's board and there was no other place to go. The lobby is gorgeous and cozy. There were many people sitting around, reading books, playing games, eating and drinking. We got to our room and discovered why. The room was very plain and looked old. Although the staff claimed that the beds were queen size, we knew they were full size because we have full size beds at home. The bathroom was a joke. Apparently when the lodge was built there were community bathrooms. To make private bathrooms, the owners converted walk-in closets into bathrooms. The shower was maybe 3' wide. We could sit on the toilet and rest our heads on the outside shower wall. The sink looked like it was from the 50's and had been taken out of a train bathroom. There wasn't even hand soap at the sink. A bottle of lotion was attached to the wall. But the final straw was the trains going by at all hours of the night. The first night my husband counted a train going past seven times. We are not the kind of people to spend $300 a night for a room. They didn't even have complimentary coffee for their guests. We had to pay $3.00 a cup at the coffee bar. I wish we would have read the reviews before we booked this place. Supposedly the rooms are going to be "updated" in three years. Maybe it will be better then. But it certainly isn't worth it now. It's a nice place to go, have a drink in the lobby, and leave.

Although the lodge has many beautiful historical features, it appears that updating areas have been neglected . The room was furnished with what appeared to be second hand furniture that had neither charm nor comfortable features. There were old water spots and dust galore. The bathroom appeared to have been remodeled in the 1960’s with cheap fixtures and finishes.

Lovely Lodge but rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade

Lovely lodge but your rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade. We most certainly "overpaid significantly" for our accommodations as compared to other lovely places we stayed during our trip to Glacier NP. While the lodge is certainly something to see, you can always just plan a day trip to spend time in the lodge, have a drink and a meal. If you are passing through and don't mind paying extra for the lodge experience, then go right ahead. My expectations were probably too high for this lodge. When you pay top dollar, that's what you should expect and what you should receive in return.

Our visit to the Lodge was wonderful! The property is clean, beautiful, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We traveled with a group, and some of our rooms were very small, but the price was the same for all of the rooms which did not set well! The food is the dining room was delicious and the staff was very friendly, courteous, and helpful.
