Needs a lot of help!

The place needs help! The rooms are very, very rustic & don’t come with a whole lot of pizazz for the money they charge. I think this is the fault of the owner. It appears he doesn’t live on property even though his house was there. I can tell you what made the stay here worthwhile was the manager Andres Chavez. When we arrived at the room the bed had a huge crater in the middle where you sleep. He came to look at it & said he knew about the issue but would fix it. Offered us another room, but the view on this room was spectacular. He dragged 2 mattresses up from other rooms only to find out it was a broken box spring. There is no easy way to get anything around this property without carrying it on your back or hauling it up the hill in a golf cart, but he had the staff working to make sure we were comfortable. We stayed right next to the hot tub, but missed out because it closed at 8pm, but he said he would get permission if we wanted to use it because we were waiting for our bed to be fixed. When we looked in the hot tub there was scum 🤮 floating in it like the cleaning ppl hadn’t touched it in days. When we woke up the next morning, we had no hot water & Andre had given us his cell # for any other problems since at 10pm there is no front desk staff to help - they all get on a bus & leave, not one minute later. We called Andre about the hot water & he immediately jumped to fix the problem, we were traveling with friends so I used another one of our rooms to shower while they fixed that issue. (It took about 5 hours to fix the water issue). The next day my shower was fine but by the end the water was cold again. Each cabin level has its own water line so the whole 5 level had no hot water as we had friends staying in another room & they had the same issues. The TV didn’t work in 2 of the 4 rooms we rented. Andre was continually running between our rooms to make our stay better. Andre was like a personal concierge to us during our stay & had it not been for him we would have stayed somewhere else & I would have asked for a full refund. The owner of this property won’t even stay here, it needs updated more than he dares to do, but he’s charging 5 star prices. The couch in our room (507) was so bad I was afraid to set anything on it let alone me sitting on it. The bed was against the wall so for me to get out of bed, I had to crawl over my husband. Mind you we rented a suite for the higher price. There is no AC so they bring you fans but leaving the windows open brings mosquitos when it was in the 80’s. It was a bit chilly at night & the heater was a wall unit that brought very little heat. The other good thing about this place was the restaurant/bar. We had a cocktail with Cabe & what a personality! We loved him. Went out of his way to make me a drink I could love instead of like since I like only sweet girlie drinks. Alaskan Rockslide. 🧊 🍹 Thanks to Andre & Cabe for being the best part of this stay. If you are the owner & reading this you need to take your offseason & make the needed upgrades to these rooms because for the $ you are charging they should not have these issues. I’ll be sure to stop & visit your good employees on our next trip if you are lucky enough to keep them around, but we will stay somewhere else. I am glad we got to know your manager, Andres, he did his very best with the tools you gave him, but his hands were tied on just how much he could do because of your lack of attention to your property. Do better at taking care of your employees & your property. I also want to mention Ivan, he was a student from Bulgaria. Very nice & always accommodating to rides loading & unloading luggage, getting ice, towels etc. Lots of good staff at least the ones that made themselves available to us, but that’s the best thing about this place.

This is a convenient place to stay if you are visiting Denali National Park. It has beautiful views of the mountains. Its restaurant, The Overlook, is quite good and reasonably priced. We visited shortly after the wildfire in the park had been contained, and so that may have affected the operation. Check-in was a bit chaotic (we arrived shortly after a small tour group) and our room was not ready until early evening. The staff was friendly and well-meaning, but seemed to lack any kind of direction from a manager. The cabins are very basic and skew towards the cheap (plastic wrapped cardboard coffee cups). But since the reason we were in the area was the park, it worked for us. Keep in mind that if you have mobility issues, the cabins at the top are not for you (about 100 steps on several sets of stairs from the front desk). You can't get your luggage to your room without someone driving you in a golf cart, which might also be an issue if many people are checking in at the same time.

A little treasure in Denali!

Nice cozy little cabin in a great location, the restaurant is so good no need to go anyplace else! Highly recommended and the staff were also friendly and attentive!! Parking is below the cabins and you can either walk up or they will shuttle you(we enjoyed the brief, short walk). They also run shuttles to local attractions but we had a rental car. Would definitely go again!

Very poor experience. Check in was rude and impersonal. Front desk told us to drive up a road where we drop off our bags, then drive back down to parking lot to finish parking. We drove up the road as described, in a minivan, was single road on a cliff no pavement and almost damaged car trying to go down this road and when realized it was not the correct path had to turn around on a cliff. Got to the rooms, neither room had heating and it got down to 45 degrees that night. Elderly grandparents and little kids was not safe. Tried to call but no one answered. In talking with the front desk in the morning, they said I should have come down to the front desk in the middle of the night to find out if there was an emergency number to get help. That seems ridiculous to think - Oh if they don’t answer their phone I should go wondering around at night to see if they have a different phone number posted. Talked to the front desk and they said they aren’t empowered to help, then manager. Manager also not empowered help. So who can help. While the rooms were clean, between the service up front and the service once an issue was identified - I would never recommend to anyone to stay here. Worst experience in my travels of hundreds of countries all over the world. For the price I paid I should have expected 5 star treatment and got less than 1 star. Should have stayed at the motel down the road, would have been a better experience.

Made a short notice booking here whilst driving up the Alaskan highway. Was having difficulty with wifi and managed to book for the current day and not the Sun as planned. I only picked this up when I got better reception and checked the email reply 2 days later. I attempted many times to phone the Crows nest but often the phone is busy for hours, possibly off the hook as they service the rooms? When I finally got hold of someone I was put through to the manager, but again phone issues meant this didn’t work and I had to call again. When I finally got to explain the situation, I was told the night I had booked was 100% occupancy and the Sun approaching was 100% occupancy so there was nothing they could do to help me. I had already checked on there website and was aware of many rooms available and 2 in the class of my original booking. Checked again still available. Emailed them this info and was told they had just had some cancellations. Wow a miracle. Ultimately the mistake in the booking was mine. Crows nest made no attempt to recognise that people make mistakes and maybe assist with a resolution, they instead hid behind a lie. Managed to get a room at The Perch 10 min down the road which I can thoroughly recommend.
