Lets just start by saying that I didn't have very high expectations due to some of the reviews. I'm not a high maintenance kind of girl. I've stayed in really nice, high-end places, and some rather shabby ones. I was very pleasantly surprised with this one. It was nothing fancy, but it was clean and the air conditioner worked (it was 95 degrees that day). The shower worked and there was a coffee maker. That's enough for me. The lady who checked us in was really nice, but the best part was the stunning view we got to wake up to. We were right at the entrance to the park. Don't be scared away because of the bad reviews!

Practically in Badlands NP
I’m basing my review on location. We only stayed 1 night and brought food with us so didn’t need to leave the motel during our brief stay. I could not believe how close we were to Badlands NP. The rattlesnake warning signs at the park freaked me out so I definitely wasn’t planning on taking any walks off the property. We took a 2nd floor room for the views even though we had to carry all our stuff up outdoor stairs. The room was clean and comfortable, but the toilet is ridiculously low.
Views were amazing and we did go outside at night to stargaze at the velvet, black sky.

Unfortunately there’s not many options to choose from if you wish to stay or near the park. We stayed at the Badlands Inn for 3 nights, 2 days this week. If the beds were not comfortable, I would have rated it terrible instead of poor. If you stay there, you better hope it doesn’t rain. The gutters are missing in the back of the building and rain coming off the roof lands on the outside unit of the window type a/c and the noise it generates as it hits the metal surface is enough to drive you nuts. The a/c is noisy too, really noisy. The bathroom sink is in the main room away from the toilet and shower but it’s a strange setup. The toilet was leaking so it ran for a few seconds every 5 minutes or so. Luckily there was no one above us the 2nd and 3rd night, but we sure heard them the first night. When we checked out, the proprietor when told of the issues couldn’t have cared less. She was nice enough when we checked in, but wasn’t terribly interested in hearing about the problems. I’d look elsewhere if I were you.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights solo while sightseeing. There is definitely not much nearby so bring snacks. The room was decent but not updated which was fine for me. The wifi worked well especially for such a remote area. Breakfast would have been nice due to remoteness but not a delabreaker. The beds were comfortable. The views of the night sky, The Badlands, and lightening storms were unbeatable. The room wasn't swept great and I was tempted to ask fro a broom to do it myself. all in all a decent hotel right next to the Badlands entrance.

Dated, loud A/C made it impossible to sleep at night, overpriced for the value; refused to shorten our stay with a refund- we left regardless to save the rest of the family vacation. No dining options unless one enjoys local frozen deep fried menu… hugely disappointing. Got here by mistake, moved to Rapid City, from where the Badlands Park is conveniently reachable.
