Overcharged while promised otherwise

This motel said we could come for 1 night instead of 2 we had booked in advance and that they would only charge us for the 1 night we actually stayed. They later charged us without notice after verbal promises from both desk clerk and manager. This place is also quite dirty, marginal beds, and really only viable if you are desperate to be right next to the park. Not worth the price and unethical to promise not to charge and then do so anyway for a shortened stay. Just be honest and say no if you can't make an exception to your policy.

Convenient for visiting the Park

We booked the Badlands Inn, as the park hotel was full. The location is literally just outside of the park entrance which is not far from the park hotel and park information center. The hotel is pretty bare-bones. Two stories, we didn’t see an elevator. Exterior hotel doors that exit onto a narrow covered wall way that have benches spaced sporadically. Our room had a comfortable queen bed, small fridge, coffee maker, AC and TV. The sink is in the bedroom, and toilet/shower in separate room. The room was clean, but our coffee, soaps etc. were not replaced. Breakfast was served starting at 8:00 in the “lobby” which is a small room with tables and a reception desk. The breakfast was continental with a few pastries and boxed cereal. We really didn’t interact with staff, there wasn’t an opportunity. The surrounding area is of course beautiful and at night the stars are fantastic! Check out the nearby “town” of Interior :)

I’m giving this hotel a three because that is what I think they are going for. It’s a solid three. The room was pretty nice actually. The bathroom could use some work. Bed very comfy. Breakfast could be better but not bad for a bagel toast or cereal. People were friendly enough very laid back. It’s a good place to stay to get into the park quickly but not a lot of food options nearby. I’d recommend if you don’t need frills.

Clean little motel with perfect Badlands location. The breakfast is included and is quite tasty. The best part is the view from your room. You can sit on the porch or balcony and watch the changing colors in the Badlands. We were there for two nights; one night a herd of cattle came and started grazing right between the hotel and the Badlands formations. Lots of mooing and commotion until they calmed down and started to graze. Very picturesque.

Don't judge this book by its cover

The SD Badlands are so very beautiful, but few places close by to stay. While this rustic roadside motel looks a bit worn on the outside, don't be putoff. The rooms are modern, new bedding, new flooring, great shower, etc. We were very happy, too, with the contential breakfast. The property is managed by Forever Resorts which is the concessionaire for the National park (campground, cabins and resturant. The motel is just 2 moles from the resturant and ranger station. A great place to hang your hat for a night or two.
