Lord of the Flies!

We had pretty low expectations going in to our two night stay. Really the only thing we needed was a couple beds,AC and basic cleanliness. We had two beds and AC. $179 a night one might argue to expect a bit more. First thing you see when walking in the door is a serious fly swatter. Second thing you see when entering is….fly’s. I’ve done my fair share of camping, hiking etc… I have never experienced fly’s like this room. I’m not talking about a few flies. I’m saying dead flies on the wall, ceiling, bathroom sink, floor, on the beds, in the lamps. Holy Lord of the flies. We killed, I estimate in the 50’s to add to the original carnage. Did I mention mold on the bed frame? Stained sheets and a dirty bathtub?? I’m all for low expectations but $179 a night? It’s all about perspective. If you are hiking for a week and stay here, it’s probably amazing. If you’re a casual tourist with family, look elsewhere. If you’re a fly lover, go for it. We stayed a week one night here, out of desperation and left. You’re better off camping , at least you control how clean you want be. Happy travels!

Simple and clean. The check in at this location was not open so we had to go over to the “sister” place to check in. Very friendly staff. Windows are fiberglass and door lock not very secure, but it was fine for an overnight stay. Satellite not working throughout, but we went to sleep

This is ok if you just want a place to sleep for the night and nothing else. There is literally nothing but the room and nothing nearby. We were hoping to get into their other property, the Cedar Pass Lodge, but it was full, and there aren't a lot of options near the Badlands Park. We arrived at 8:45 and left by 7 in the morning. It is basically a 2-story motel that is somewhat old and run-down. We usually stay at a Hampton or Holiday Inn, so this was quite a downgrade from that. There is no one staffed at the office, and you have to go into the park to the Cedar Pass Lodge to get your keys (or if it is after 9pm they are left in the drop-box). There was no prior communication to this effect but a sign is posted on the office door so we had to drive back into the park where we had just come from to get the key. There is no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage up the metal stairs at each end of the building if you have a 2nd floor room. At first glance into the room, it looks pleasant as the rooms have been partially updated with new beds and laminate wood flooring. The bed and pillows look nice and were clean and comfortable. The lampshades were old and had black specks. Plus many of the bulbs were burned out between our 2 rooms. The bathroom area hasn't had an upgrade in quite some time. The sink is at the end of the bedroom area outside of the bathroom and has older green vinyl flooring and a laminate countertop. The toilet and shower are in the bathroom with the old-style hollow wood door. The toilet is LOW, and the shower head is so low that you have to duck to get your head wet, even if you aren't tall. The inside of the tub was clean, though. The caulk on the floor around the tub was filthy with mold and dirt and there was something in the corner that at first glance looked like mouse droppings. Upon further inspection, I think it was dead bugs. We also found dead bugs on the floor by the beds. I was pretty freaked out by this point, but what are you going to do at 9 pm with no nearby options. After I thought about it, I do recognize that it is in the middle of the wilderness and bugs are probably everywhere, so at least they were dead. That meant to me that maybe they do treat the place? The view of the sunrise over the badlands was ok, but not worth staying there just for that, in my opinion. Bottom line for me, I would never stay here again. If I couldn't stay at Cedar Pass, then I would adjust my plans to finish seeing the Badlands so I could stay in another area.

Dead Bugs In and On Bed

Disgusting. Live flys everywhere inside the hotel and in the lodge restaurant down the road. The hotel room had dozens of live flys or dead flys, and more concerning, other suspect bugs in the bed, on the bed, on the floor. We inspected the mattresses, sheets, etc and they all had dark stains, whole dead bugs, and bug parts. We didn’t even make it to the bathroom to inspect it, we left immediately and told the clerk we would not be staying. Clearly, the room had not been vacuumed or cleaned. I’m not sure if the sheets had been changed because I can not fathom how there could be that many dead bugs and bug parts on and in both beds. We drove an hour away and stayed in Rapid City.

Outdated, poorly kept, dirty motel. The floor was sticky and dirty in our room, the window wouldn't open, the property was unkempt with trash blowing around. The motel was having some kind of technical difficulty so the office was closed and unmanned. You had to check in at a motel down the road. The front of the A/C unit was falling off. The room was full of flies when we arrived. Bath tub/ shower was extremely narrow and slippery. My husband fell the first night while showering. We were locked out of our room the 2nd night as the card used to get in the room was activated for only one night, which required hunting down a staff member to help (the office was still closed on day two). I would not recommend this motel to anyone. It should the torn down.
