I had some reservations about this place based on the reviews, and I understand the limitations of the Autocamp, but we had a wonderful time. It can be hot and there's not a lot of shade. We were there in March when the daytime temps were pleasant and the nights were nice and cool for sitting around the fire. The staff stays very busy and might not always be available, but I imagine they have to spend a lot of time helping people understand how to work the heat/AC/lights in the Airstreams. And the AC/heat is loud in the Airstreams, but we adapted and were quite cozy. We were there mid-week and it didn't seem very crowded, but it might be a different experience when the place is really full. At check-in we got lots of good information about the Airstream and local area and were pleased that they took the time to explain things. It's not like just walking into a hotel and going to a room. And we enjoyed everything - several happy hours, the morning coffee and granola and making S'mores at our private fire and looking at the stars. Being out in nature while also comfy in our Airstream was a real treat. I probably wouldn't stay at AC Joshua Tree in the heat of the summer but I would return in cooler weather. And we're looking forward to trying some of the other Autocamp locations. We were also very pleased with the town of Joshua Tree and had all our meals there, finding lots of good vegetarian food and interesting drinks. The entrance to the National Park is about a 20 minute drive and the Visitor Center is even closer. We are a couple in our 60's who enjoy hiking and being outdoors.

I visited Autocamp Yosemite twice over the last 5 years and had great experiences so didn’t hesitate to visit Joshua Tree Autocamp—but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. While the Airstream aesthetic is unique and the location is convenient (close to Joshua Tree National Park and within walking distance of shops and restaurants), the overall experience was disappointing. There were a few highlights, like live music in the clubhouse and free yoga. However, the downsides outweighed the positives. •Lack of Shade & Comfort: The grounds offered little cover from the intense sun. •Food & Service Issues: The food options were underwhelming, and staff seemed stretched thin—front desk employees were also bartenders and restaurant staff. •Kid-Friendly (Not in a Good Way): So many kids. And I found myself wondering how whole families fit into their Airstreams without murdering each other by the end of the trip. With all of the kids running around, I couldn’t fully relax and enjoy a drink or casually drop an F-bomb without feeling out of place. •Privacy & Noise: While the property looks remote in photos, it’s actually close to a major road, and the layout doesn’t offer much privacy. It felt both exposed and somewhat confined at the same time. Overall, I felt trapped in the heat with no inviting, shaded communal space to escape to—especially one away from the constant presence of kids.

Good, not great

Three pieces of feedback to mention: 1. I left my toiletry bag on the bathroom counter upon checkout and filed a lost item report online (as instructed by front desk), but there was never any reply. I've since had to replace prescription drugs and other items. 2. There are five car chargers on site: two Tesla, three regular. The five hour charging limit is not enforced at all, so it was difficult to plan charging. Some guests totally abused the limit, parking for 24 hrs+ with no action by the hotel. 3. The property is right off a busy highway, and unfortunately our Airstream backed right up onto it, so there was a lot of traffic noise. We asked about moving and were told no. Just not the isolated desert experience I expected.

We loved staying at Auto Camp Joshua Tree. It is only 10 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park. We love camping and being outside and chose one of the tiny cabins. It was perfect for the two of us and we did our grocery shopping before we arrived and cooked all our meals in the cabin and made lunches for our days in the park. The staff was very friendly and once we struggled to get our camp fire started and they sent someone over from facilities to light it for us. I would suggest staying a minimum of 3 days. We plan on visiting other Auto Camp properties near National Parks based on our positive experience here. Auto Camp now partners with Hilton Honors, so if you are a Diamond member with Hilton you can use your points and dollars to book the property.

Glamping without the “Glam”

I had very high hopes for this “glamping” experience. I booked a premium Airstream for five nights with plans to explore Joshua Tree National Park (JT NP ) which is very close by. Unfortunately there was nothing premium about it. The trailer was located on the inner loop which meant it was surrounded on all sides by other trailers. Very little privacy at our firepit which was really close to our neighbor. In addition the trailer was located at the south end of the property which meant it was a long walk to the main building and closer to the noisy highway. Another thing you need to know is that housekeeping is by request only so we had five days without fresh towels or linens. They did have fresh coffee in the lobby each morning and management was responsive when I complained however that didn’t get us housekeeping services. The town of Joshua Tree is a quaint little desert town with great access to JT NP. The trailers are a comfortable alternative to camping and the heat and a/c were much appreciated.
