This was a great place to stay while in Seward. We liked the fact that it is just outside of town - would not have wanted to stay right near the water/docks. The rooms are clean and modern as this place is fairly new. The owners were very nice. Only about five minutes to drive into the town.

Clean, NEW rooms with onsite drive thru coffee bar!

The owner truly helped us out of a bind by quickly getting us into one of the avaiable rooms at 10:00pm after a very negative experience with a glamping site right down the road. The room was new, clean with a full kitchen, full private bath, box fan provided (which was nice as most places don't have air/fans), remote check-in with a code, and a drive thru coffee bar on site! I wish I had found THIS PLACE in my original search of Seward instead of where we stayed down the road. The owner & this lodge were PERFECTION! I cannot say enough good things about their establishment. They are located on the same road as Kenai National Park-Exit Glacier which makes this an even better location if you are planning to spend time hiking there.

Mysterious Charges

The credit card showed mysterious charges of 2/$50. Inquiry was made, and the claim was that the sheets were damaged in one of the 3 rooms with a pink substance on bedding and walls. The person staying in the room disputed this, and another traveler with us saw no such evidence of stained sheets and walls. This has never happened in our many travels around the world.

Do not stay here - literal highway robbery

I don't often write bad reviews but, in this instance, I feel compelled to warn potential guests of the Spruce Lodge. If it saves one family from being robbed, it is worth the time to write it. My family and I spent one night here in June. After a long day driving from Anchorage, we arrived tired and promptly went to bed. We had an early day the next day so we only occupied the room to use the bathroom, shower, and sleep. A week later, after arriving back in Texas my mom noticed an additional $100 charge on her credit card from the Spruce Lodge. There was no explanation for this mystery charge, and this was in addition to the expected room charges. She called the Lodge and was told the reason for the charge was to replace sheets. Confused, she asked me if I knew what it could be. I called the Spruce Lodge and was told that the sheets were stained with a pink substance that would not wash out. Being naive, and believing they were charging her in good faith, I initially assumed I could be responsible; I speculated that it could be lotion, but was then told it was also on the wall. As I did not have any lotion with me, nor had I worn it that day, nor was any lotion I've ever used pink, I could not have been the one responsible for the alleged stains on the sheets, bedding, or wall. As we continued our conversation, the Lodge's claim started to sound made-up. The clerk refused to provide photos, any evidence of damage, nor receipts for the replaced sheets. I began to suspect the "$100 damaged sheets" story was a ruse to steal from unsuspecting, out-of-state guests from the lower 48. Again, this showed up as a mystery charge on my mom's card - no email, no phone call, no text. I then phoned the manager who was incredibly rude and belligerent on the phone - referring to my mom as an ignorant grandma, that I shouldn't damage anyone else's sheets, etc. In all my years of traveling, I've never encountered anything like this... I hope this can serve as a warning to others that, if you do stay here, but sure to take photos of your room before and after your visit. When you get back home, double-check your credit card statement for mystery charges from the Spruce Lodge.

The best thing about this property is Azura and Kris. The most friendly and helpful hosts. We were so well taken care of here. I would come back just for the hospitality. Something’s to know that we didn’t: 1) Let them know when you’re coming in and if you need pick up. We came in on the early train and we didn’t know that they would pick up our bags at the station while we explored Seward. But when they found out that we were exploring Seward with our luggage, we arranged a meet up where Chris collected our bags. Later, at check in time, Kris was available to pick us up. 2) Not a lot of options for eateries. However, Kris recommended a restaurant around the street that was a good options. 3) As of right now, they only have one room with two beds. All the other rooms are single queens. But, thankfully they are building more rooms that can accommodate two beds Other than that, it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom/ closet barn door was not well thought out. But other than that, this is an excellent place to stay in Seward. Especially, if you’re stopping over before and/ or after a cruise. The HOSPITALITY is everything!
