Standards are low and prices are high here. But maybe this applies throughout Alaska and particularly to places which close for winter. But, most annoying is the fact that the shuttle bus dumps you at the rail station approx 2 hours before the train leaves! They think it’s a trans Atlantic flight! Real reason: they want you out of the hotel. Pathetic.

We went to reception and began to realize how Extremely outdated this place is. Think 1970s. The restaurant is food was average and overpriced. There were 3 tissues left in bathroom box and after returning from a day trip realized the box was not replaced. This place is up a hill and far from other restaurants and shopping. If you go to Denali stay at the Princess which is near everything.

We mistakenly thought this hotel was in the park because in many other National Parks the [park name] Lodge is in the park, the high cost, and the description said it was a short ride into town. However this hotel is on the other side of the valley from the park and the free shuttle that runs every hour takes about 15-20 minutes to get into the village after stopping at the Denali Bluffs hotel and 25-30 minutes to return since it makes another stop at the other end of the village and then at Denali Bluffs again. It is also the first pick up and last drop off for tours. It is typical high end (overpriced) Alaskan hotel that is open only about 4-5 months a year. It has a nice restaurant and bar if you wan to buy overpriced food and drink. The rooms were small and the ones facing the park have nice views. If we ever go back, we will stay at a place in the village

Very expensive, very dated
Not terribly impressed with this outdated hotel situated high above Denali Village. If your room overlooks the car park, be sure to take earplugs as the coach and shuttle bus trundle past your window from 6am. The decor is so dated and whoever chose the carpets must be colour blind. I just wanted the job of redesigning the whole place and bringing it into the 21st century, which is quite funny really as we were told that it wasn't built until around 2003.
The internet kept disappearing and to add insult to injury the water was freezing first thing in the morning the day we left. All in all the facilities are not in line with the prices charged.
Was expecting Jack Nicholson to appear at any time!
Did laugh at the road signs on the way up the hill.

Beautiful views from one side of the property, rude staff, basic rooms
The view can be fabulous if you get a room on the "right" side of the "lodge." The rooms are clean, but really basic. I'd say it would be a 2-2.5 star hotel in most major markets. Three different staff members were rude on three separate occasions, others were really nice. Management needs to do a better job with hiring or training...actually managing the guest experience. For the money, I'd stay elsewhere. You can always drive up (or take the shuttle) and walk out on their deck to enjoy the view for free.
