Don't expect too much

The Lobstick Lodge is an older hotel and its age shows. At least this was the case in our unit (one bedroom, kitchen, pull-out sofa). The whole floor is covered by carpet, including the kitchen area. The carpet is obviously old with permanent stains. The sofa looked very worn out and not very clean. The bedroom has a large window and lots of space but the two double beds are squized together with a small night table in the middle and hardly any space between the beds and the walls. It has a chest of drawers, a TV and two chairs. The bathroom is smallish with minimal counter space around the sink. It is equiped with a bathtub/shower combo which looked quite new. Some paint was peeling on the ceiling. The plumbing is very noisy and one can hear guests in other rooms using it. This also applies not only to plumbing but to all sounds coming from adjacent rooms. The kitchen is equipped with a medium size fridge, stove/oven, a microwave, a coffe maker, a kettle and a toaster. The stove looked old. There was enough dishes, pots, cuttlery etc. No dishwasher. In the kitchen/living area there was another, smaller TV. Also, a table and chairs. This area has no window. We were missing some coat hangers but they were delivered after we had requested them. Annoying dripping kitched faucet was repaired promptly as well. Some reviews mention rude and unhelpfull front desk staff. This was not the case during our stay. On the contrary, they were polite and quite helpful. We spoke briefly with the manager, also very professional and helpful. He explained that the hotel is scheduled to undergo major renovations. The hotel is situated about 10 minutes walk from “downtown”. Outside it looks okay except from the ramp constructed of plywood and scaffolding. Probably for wheelchairs and lugage racks. Plenty of outside parking space. The Lobstick offers units (among others) with kitchens and and more than two beds. It is hard to find other hotels in Jasper with the same offer. After renovations it may be quite nice (and probably more expensive).

Had I written this on my arrival it would have been so much poorer a score ! We arrived about 7.30 in the evening it was very dark outside so not keen to go exploring we thought we could just stay in and start exploring the next day. The receptionist wasn’t the most pleasant when we asked about food or even a drink we were told there was the chateau next door which closed at 9 as did the bar Whiskey Jacks which was just down the road. Other than that we would need to get into the main area she shrugged with a very take it or leave it attitude not helpful or particularly pleasant. The hotel was very tired and needing updated! On a more positive note we found the beds to be very comfortable, there was plenty of towels and complimentary toiletries, teas and coffees. The pool area was ok and again plenty towel’s available. Would I go back to it no would I recommend no it’s too far away from main town. With very little around it! Whiskey Jacks is only a few minutes walk away which although closed at 9 they had a good menu and were very welcoming . We also tried the Chateau next to the Lobstick menu wasn’t to our taste but we tried it but again we wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t go back.

Stayed here for four days to celebrate christmas booked a room with kitchen, a bit outdated but fairly enough they have cookwares and kitchenwares, useful specially this winter to reheat food since central area is about 10-15 mins walk. Expecting some activities since it’s christmas and my kids are looking forward for something exciting but it’s like ghost town most of the shops are closed, hotel has no activity to offer., the pool is the only thing that lift the kids. Expecting more since it’s our first time to visit jasper..

I was part of a tour group who stayed at Lobstick Lodge. Katlyn the Aussie receptionist was amazing. Very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much for her. The rooms were clean and I would happily stay again.

Disappointing to say the least. Started with a very rude and condescending young man at reception. Room was not updated and washroom was dirty. Beds were uncomfortable. Cafe closed most of the time. We had stayed at the Lobstick about 8 years ago and have such fond memories. That is the reason we chose to go back for Thanksgiving and my birthday. Will not return.
