This hotel is in the perfect spot in Banff. You walk outside, and you are smacked with the iconic Banff Downtown Mountain view. This hotel is walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel is historic with spacious rooms and great views. Check out the hot tub on the 5th floor.

Not quite excellent

Yes, a great situation and we chose a more expensive guaranteed mountain view. So, no noise as these rooms are all at the back of the hotel. Room service was mostly fine except for one day when our coffee cups were not replaced though the tray was replenished. Front of house staff were friendly and happy to help throughout. One of the hot tubs was again under repair (as it was when we last stayed here in the winter) so limited use only possible for 6 (?) people.

Located almost in the absolute centre of Banff. Great location. Apparently, it can sometimes be noisy as some of the rooms overlook the Banff’s main street but we had no issues. If noise is a concern, request a rear-facing room. No gym, but a couple of fantastic outdoor hot tubs. A really nice lounge area on the top floor. Overall, clean and comfortable. My visit was around Christmas and the hotel felt really “Christmassy” with a fire going in the lobby (possibly a gas fireplace - can’t remember). The bus to take you to Lake Louise ski resort picked you up right in the hotel’s parking lot.

Great location

We stayed at the Mount Royal for 4 nights in a standard king bedded room. Check in was quick and easy. Parking is available at the hotel for CAD5 per night. It’s an open car park so car is out in the weather. The location of the hotel is fantastic - right in the centre of town. Literally all restaurants and shops at your doorstep. The room was located on the 4th floor at the back of the hotel with a view of the mountains. At the back of the hotel is also the bus stop for buses heading to different ski areas and a small public car park so can get noisy. The hotel supplies ear plugs and a white noise machine. This was great and first hotel we have stayed at that had a white noise machine. The room was on the small side. we were 2 adults with 2 large bags and it got a little squeezey but we made it work with moving a chair or two. The bathroom was small as well with shower only - no tub. The room and bathroom were modern and had everything you need including a small fridge which was located in the closet. All in all the hotel was very good, cannot beat the location which makes up for the smaller rooms.

Great value, comfort and location.

This is the ideal base for touring Banff and the surrounding area. You can walk to many local restaurants and shops and a good sized grocery store is a 5 minute walk away. It is a very comfortable property, rather than a grand hotel like the Banff Springs. Choose the parking lot side for a quieter experience which doesn't really provide a view, but is perfectly fine. Room amenities include a small refrigerator, safe and Nespresso machine, very comfortable beds and a nice bathroom with good shower pressure. They aren't large but the ceilings are high, on the 4th floor. The lobby is small and the lounge on the 5th floor is more akin to a homey family room. It is not fancy, but it is fine. A few drinks are offered and snacks during happy hour, for a fee. Off the lounge are hot tubs for use by guests. Robes and towels are provided. The only downside for me was the parking. It made me uncomfortable to know I might not get a spot, particularly on busy weekends. Usually, every spot was taken by the evening. Brazen, the restaurant off the lobby is good, and a little more expensive than others. Housekeeping service is on demand only. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Overall, I would definitely choose this hotel again for value, comfort and location.
