Fabulous location. The tents are very spacious and private with a very comfortable king sized bed. Lots of hot water. The staff bend over backwards to be helpful. Food is pretty good my favorite was breakfast but coffee needs work. I am definitely going to find another Under Canvas in a state a national park area as it was so enjoyable.

I have spent the day deciding on my feelings about Canvas Under the Stars. My initial reaction was WOW this is amazing! Great orientation by Brady and who wouldn't love this place. You have mountains, pine trees, tree the view of Mt Rushmore (which is stunning by the way) wonderful food, beautiful tent with the most comfy bed ever. But then there are the bathrooms. Many have commented on them above. It is true you share unless you forgo some more of that hard earned cash. It is already expensive and we wanted to stay two nights so thought it would be ok. On my 6 trips there they were dirty more than not. I will say upon check out I mentioned it to the girl at the desk, who wasnt very happy that I did, but it was cleaned before we loaded the car and I made one more pit stop. This is going to have to be checked hourly for this problem to go away. I think the main problem is everyone from the main gathering spot uses the same bathroom facilities that is really for our tents. Maybe an added bathroom in the main gathering place next year would take care of this issue.
I feel very fortunate to have been able to stay here and experience the adventure. It was really a beautiful and unique spot. The staff is very very friendly, well maybe not the girl at checkout. The cooks amazing and other than the baths very clean and well kept. I would me amiss for not mentioning the noice. Hey it's outside and family orientated. Relax but know those kids get up early! We'll be back! And overall a great experience.

Excellent! Planning my trip back!
I will preface this by staying it was really difficult to bite the bullet on our reservation given the price. I was planning to visit Mount Rushmore with my husband and his mom, along with her little dog. I saw the competition online (motels) and it all paled in comparison. The photos of the camp make it look totally awesome, and it definitely was! Given the age of my mother-in-law, we opted for the tent with the bathroom in it. This added ~$100 but now that it’s all said and done, I can 100% say it was worth it. Especially after the crazy storm we endured through the night! No leaks, no problems. We didn’t have one worry from the time we arrived to the time we checked out. Everyone we came across was friendly and accommodating, the room was AMAZING! The shower was hot, the view was spectacular. My only regret is not staying longer.
Note: the pathway back to the camp is a dirt road that had many potholes and crevasses so if you’re traveling in your lowered car, keep that in mind. A typical sedan would be just fine but lowered 3 inches may scrape a bit.
Food Note: my husband and I are vegan so we figured we wouldn’t be able to utilize the kitchen at the camp. We were wrong! Each service (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) have one or more vegan options which is very awesome and I really appreciate! I attached photos of the menu for reference.
Tip: they offer a 10% military discount, active or past duty!

Our stay at Under Canvas Mt. Rushmore was simply perfect. The tents are as nice as advertised and the beds and bedding are high end hotel quality. The pictures of the property don’t do it justice. The property is gorgeous. Our boys (7 and 11) loved hiking the grounds every morning and rock climbing the various rock faces (they would’ve been happy to never leave for 4 days). The view of Mount Rushmore from the reception desk is also stunning and you get a very clear view in the morning and evening. The staff was awesome and super helpful in planning our trips and hikes each morning. Elizabeth (the night manager and super knowledgeable and helpful) recommended several locals hikes including our hike to the Devil’s Bathtub which was highlight of our trip. Definitely visit Spearfish Canyon ... it is gorgeous.
The food is very high quality and would hold its own in most cities let alone a camp ground. Nightly board games and live music were also awesome.
We spent our drive home planning our 2020 summer vacation to Under Canvas Smokey Mountains.
Under Canvas exceeded our very high expectations!

Intro to Glamping
Our first time glamping will have us returning and looking forward to it! Its the best of camping (tent, sounds and smells of nature, relaxed pace) with the "necessities" for someone who doesn't want to sleep on the floor. Excellent bed, clean room complete with sink, toilet, shower, wood stove and wood, chairs, phone chargers (only "electricity" in the tent), lanterns, and balcony with chairs to watch the sunset. The restaurant is an excellent convenience as you are a couple miles from town. Bring your own or order from the restaurant. And the view of Mt. Rushmore is great. Only disappointment is that I had read a review that said that you could walk to Rushmore. Not the case. Had to drive. And nighttime activity in the amphitheater is closed until 2021 (construction) so check the USNP website before you go. But the glamping was amazing!!!
