We booked a teepee and it was lovely. But we arrived early afternoon and it was 93 degrees in there! It’s not the resort’s fault that we’re Brits with jet lag getting up early to hike and then drive to the next place, so what we really wanted was to have a snooze in a cool room. The resort were great about it, and moved us to a cabin where we slept really well. The resort is well located for the park and opposite the Red Rim restaurant.

Glorified Motel - No Resort in Sight

This resort is not at all what I expected. The pictures online made this facility look like a luxury lodging with nice quality bedding and room appointments. This is a motel with cowboy artwork, no better than a typical Motel 6, yet with a price tag of a much higher grade hotel. The one positive was the beautiful location. We stayed in a double queen on the bottom floor of the main building. The bathroom was so small my tiny 7 year old had trouble closing the door next to the tub and toilet, there was goo on the backsplash of the sink, a light out in the bathroom, a sticky substance on the floor next to my side of the bed, and such poor lighting I could barely see what I was writing at the table, even with the drapes open. The pool was so cold my kids got out after 10 minutes and had blue lips and were shivering, even in the August sun. My problem with this accommodation is that I paid nearly $200 for a subpar room expecting something much nicer. I expressed my concerns to the manager and she offered us breakfast, which was also just as disappointing as the hotel because of harried service and bland food. Know what you’re signing up for when you book this hotel.

Nice Motel Close to Park

We were somewhat disappointed in this motel since the photos on Trip Advisor picture it as much nicer than it actually is. Nevertheless this resort, as it calls itself, has some two story very basic looking motel sections, a newer area that looks to have larger rooms, cabins and other areas. Our actual room was very adequate for our needs: the room was clean, fairly large with a super-comfortable King-size bed, a nice little refrigerator, a microwave (which we did not use), and a nice bathroom. The best part was the second floor location (actually street level) which had a balcony that overlooked beautiful cliffs and had two chairs and a table. This was offset a little by the fact the next balcony was separated by simply a wall and we had very loud neighbors. We were happy with our choice because of the bed, the balcony, and the closeness to Capitol Reef Park. The restaurant on premises offered a very dismal buffet breakfast. For dinner there are excellent restaurants in Torrey, a few miles down the road. The front desk staff was very nice. The motel would be greatly improved if it offered some sandwiches and snacks for sale since Capitol Reef Park has no restaurants or snack bars.

We spent one night at this resort. The place was super clean and comfortable. The views spectacular as well. We did not eat there since it seemed a bit overpriced, and the breakfast had to be a buffet. Would have liked an area for some nice coffee besides the kurig in the room. Fun place for family

Gnats Everywhere

Great location for exploring Capitol Reef and Dixie National Park/Boulder Mountain. Extraordinary views. Check-in service OK. Parking OK. Down one long flight of stairs to get to the first floor. Small patios with chairs for enjoying the views. Standard size room, current decor, clean. Small kitchenette. Everything was perfectly fine until I awoke in the morning (closest bed to the door) covered in gnats. Gnats covered the front door and ceiling even though we had been very cognizant of keeping our door closed. I attempted to exit and realized the entire outside of the hotel was equally covered - I've never seen anything like it. We packed and fled for the car. We had gnats all over us including in our hair. Those that escaped our swatting traveled with us for the next couple of days. The man at the front desk seemed unconcerned, "never seen 'em this bad." I understand this is not necessarily within the control of the hotel, but its proximity to the meadow might attract these insects. I suspect there may be other places with a nice view that might not be in the line of fire.
