Greed

This property INSISTED I cancel until I reserved a rental car. Charged $35. I had to rebook entire trip, several properties. Prices were higher when rebooked. 2 dys ago rental car co overbooked, canceled my car. No more cars anywhere. Had to cancel entire Alaska trip. I literally BEGGED this property waive their fee especially as they had already made money from me. Not only did they rudely refuse but also Demanded I call them or they'd charge the entire 4 nt res instead of allowing me to use Hotels.com to cancel. they Knew
I had no phone, out of country. This property also intended to drag this out until after deadline to cancel for any refund. Pure greed. Waste my time, created great stress.
STILL insisted I call. I was charged.
Why would you take a chance? Trust them to be professionals? Their ad says no cancel fee. Would they actually honor this if you needed to make changes? Why would you take a chance? Many other properties in that area.

Basic Stay,Suited the purpose

Our arrival was somewhat strange & uncomfortable. The person manning the desk in the evening was a bit aloof and not extremely helpful. The room and especially the bathroom is somewhat dated.
My only advice if you intend to book this hotel is to find out if you can book the first floor. We had to lug our suitcases up a tall staircase to reach our second floor room, which was a little difficult for us.
We were also told by the person checking us in that there was a back door closer to the end of the hallway where our room was located that was kept locked, but our key did not open the door, and then we were told by the person in the morning that door was never kept locked which I think is a bit of a security issue.
They did leave a bowl of saran wrapped food in the refrigerator, which I felt was geared more towards children than adults, juice boxes, fruit snacks. The hard boiled eggs were appreciated. Also, the driveway to the hotel is an obstacle course of potholes, and as it had been raining difficult to spot those potholes.
The best part of staying in Healy was 49th State brewery, we ate there 2 nights. Loved it there

Ask for the second floor.

Also, I was on the first floor and could hear every step in the room above me. For the price, it seemed like a reasonable deal.

Good For The Area

Published Date: Sep, 25, 2024 Travel Date: Sep, 1, 2024 Rating: 3 This is a good hotel choice for this remote area, especially for travelers visiting Denali outside of the tourist high season. The accommodations are modest, but it is friendly, clean, and there are many small, but thoughtful touches that help optimize a stay. The two notable negatives were the condition of the bathrooms, and the extreme potholing on the hotel entry road. While the bathroom had clearly been cleaned, the sink, toilet, and shower fixtures were ancient (not in a good way), and did not function well.

Great stay for a reasonable price

The hotel is right off the main highway but tucked down a long driveway allowing it to be private and quiet. While the hotel is on the older side, therefore has very thin walls and floors and a slightly older hotel musty smell to the lobby area, the rooms had some updates done and were very clean and did not have the older musty smell to them. Our room was on the first floor right next to the lobby, which I do not recommend as we heard the front entry door to the hotel slamming at all hours as people came and went. The rooms have a fridge (although very tiny) and a microwave. They have breakfast in the fridge that included hard boiled eggs, oranges, Gogurt, Nutrigrain bars, juice boxes, etc. That was a nice added touch. The lobby has a tray with snacks such as chips, candy, Easy Mac, Cup Noodles, water, pop, popcorn, etc. for purchase at very reasonable prices. Coffee and tea is provided in room and in the lobby. If you are looking for a resort with things to do, this isn't your place. But if you are simply using it as a home base to rest your head for a reasonable price while exploring Denali NP, this place is perfect and I would stay here again. Side note, I asked the front desk if they happened to have bear spray and the happily let me borrow a can of it for my stay, stating many people leave cans of it behind.
