Good for an Overnight
This hotel was fine - renovated older hotel without too many guests. The fixtures were dated but it was clean and quiet. The staff were all helpful and we had no real issues. It's very convenient for a walk into town and not far at all from the Skyline Drive. The price was inexpensive. The pool was closed and there was no breakfast.

Awful! I should have slept in my car!
This is the WORST hotel I’ve ever stayed in! From the moment we walked into the stairwell and onto what looked like a miniature freight elevator used for hauling cement, I should have known this wasn’t good. The outdoor temp was 27* and upon entering the COLD room, we turned on the “heat”. Yeah, right. The ancient box mounted below the window, expelled cool air and didn’t “warm” up until the next morning! The room was so shabby. Mold on the ceiling, missing tiles, mold in the bathroom. I wouldn’t take a shower. The room also had a slight foul odor. The door only locked with the twist door bolt- the chain type of security lock was missing. Breakfast the next morning at 8am consisted of 5 hard boiled eggs, 3 strips of bacon, some dry cereal and the coffee was out. This was the quantity for the whole dining room! We promptly turned around and left. If it wasn’t below freezing, I would have slept in my car. I have reported this to the Choice Hotels customer support line. My advice? AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

clean and friendly
this was a quick overnight the place was clean there was a pool we did not use but it looked nice and the water was clear the staff friendly and personable and helpful when it came to finding some food

I've stayed here 3 times so far. It's a decent hotel, decent quality and rates, it's a great location. I'd give a 5 star on the friendliest staff but it's obvious non stop construction for this hotel. And sometimes I go to hotels specifically for or hope for more sleeping in but this isnt the place for it and I would be mad with a 1 star if I did come just for the sleep, due to the noise level. The housekeeping/maint carts being viciously pushed by rooms early morning on horrible outdoor patio walkways..the noise to that is ridiculously loud and was louder than the noise from construction which you do hear.... this hotel is only a suck up convience for me in location & price.

I was treated rudely at check-in.
I was treated rudely at check-in on Sept. 22, 2019. The manager insisted on charging for my Therapy Dog, which Choice Hotels never has. Dogs registered with Alliance of Therapy Dogs provide a therapeutic benefit to the general public, visiting in hospitals, nursing homes, schools of all levels, airports, teen centers, etc., anywhere people need de-stressing and lifting of spirits. Dogs and handlers pass tests to become certified. It is all volunteer work though we pay a fee each year for certification. We are Choice Platinum Members (a fact supposed to be recognized at check-in and was not) who travel a lot all over the USA, and having our Therapy Dog with us for no fee has made us loyal customers. If Choice has changed their rule around this, we will be a lot less loyal. And I surely don't want to be yelled at during check-in.
