I would say this is the best hotel in Port Angeles. My family stayed in a 2 queen bed room which was very roomy. The bathroom was also large, and there were 2 sinks (one inside the bathroom area, and the other outside). Our room faced the water, which offered a great view of the port area and incoming ships. Leaving the sliding door open to hear the waves crashing on shore was very relaxing. I can't recommend eating at the restaurant attached to the hotel, but there are several nice restaurants within walking distance near the wharf. The only glaring negative we experienced was the super slow hotel WiFi. During our 3 night stay, the WiFi internet was totally unusable for uploading photos or streaming video content. We ended up using our phone cell provider which was somewhat usable for this location. I'd definitely recommend this hotel while staying in Port Angeles.

The view is great in the waterfront rooms, that's about it

I'll start with the good about this hotel. I rented one of the king rooms on the waterfront. It's got a great view, and it was worth it. Room was spacious. The bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable and firm. I had low expectations for this hotel, I just wanted the view. I had no idea that I should expect to be treated like a complete jerk for just checking in. The woman who helped me seemed utterly annoyed that I was there. She rapid-fired what seemed to be a possible retaliation to any complaint any guest might have ever had. She over explained the $25 pre-charge. Told me breakfast wasn't included. The pool was closed (obviously, it's March in PNW), and more I can't even remember because I felt so uncomfortable. I literally did not are about these things, and I'm not a complainer. I felt like I was arriving at military basic training all over again. What she did not do was confirm my room type, or any small amenities of the property, other than Wi-Fi. I always hated working at hotels when I was young too, but treat the guests like that before they've even said a word? The next morning I went to drop off my key. I walked into the Garbage song "I’m Only Happy When It Rains" blasting. It felt appropriate. One woman was laying her head on the counter. She stood up. Another man was there avoiding eye contact. The other woman was polite enough, and took the key cards.

Great water views, close to the ferry better than other Red Lion properties

we stayed at the Port Angeles Red Lion before taking a ferry to Victoria, BC the following day. Reasonable rates. Walking distance to the Ferry and downtown. Pet Friendly. The workout room is up at the office. The property needs a little updating maintenance in some areas. Cleaning crew can show a little more attention to detail

Underrated bright spot in Port Angeles

It's puzzling why this property doesn't get better reviews although its vast size may likely play against it. Staff are friendly, competent and appear to stick around (the head facility tech has clearly been with the company for a long while). Responsiveness is great, attached restaurant is great in the support role and very good when compared to outside venues. The waterside deluxe rooms are well maintained and clean. I suppose the downside in terms of impressions is this is a well-used, very large hotel built with an eye towards the small business convention crowd. It is also very mature, and it shows around the edges. Overall, a room with a waterfront view is great value to anyone with even a passing interest in the regional maritime industry. Boats and ships of all types ply the waters and with a set of binoculars and a ship id app one can literally spend hours entertained by the constant activity in this bustling harbor.

Acceptable accommodations with a nice view and location

Stayed in a superior king room. Positives: - Room was spacious - Bed was comfortable - View was great - Check-in was smooth - Location was convenient Negatives: - Bathroom was a bit grungy (Not housekeeping's fault in any way) - Hallway was very uneven The state of the bathroom was not horrendous. It looked freshly cleaned, but there were some black spots in the grout and on the edges of some tiles. The tiling and fixtures seemed dated, and the hot/cold on the shower was reversed. I didn’t feel unsafe or anything like that. It just seemed like it could use some touching up beyond what housekeeping is expected to provide. The hallway down the middle of the building has a noticeable wave to it, and walking down it felt a bit like walking along a weathered boardwalk with warped planks. I would compare this place to a nicer version of a motel. Perfectly adequate, if a bit rough around the edges. The view and the location are the reasons to stay here. If you can put up with a motel-like experience, you'll enjoy your stay here.
