Notes: Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States in maximum water capacity. It is located on the Colorado River about 24 mi (39 km) from the Strip southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, in the states of Nevada and Arizona. Lake Mead offers many types of recreation to locals and visitors. Boating is the most popular. Additional activities include fishing, water skiing, swimming, sunbathing, hiking, hot springs, canoeing and a short trip away from Las Vegas. There are five marinas on the lake. The area also has many coves with rocky cliffs and sandy beaches. There are several small to medium-sized islands in the lake area depending on the water level. In addition to all the usual lake activities Lake Mead offers a Dinner Cruise and tour, plus view Lake Mead from the air. Helicopter tours are available. Desert hikes will also give you a view that you will not see from a boat or car.

A:The best time to visit Lake Mead is in the spring and fall when temperatures reach comfortably warm degrees. However, the area is beautiful any time of the year. If you come in the summer you will want to plan activities during the morning and evening hours as daytime temps average 100 degrees. In any case you should be prepared for warm weather.
