Lake McDonald Lodge is located 11 miles inside the western border of Glacier National Park. This lodge is a complex of motel rooms, private cabins, and lodge rooms. It may be its lakeside location or the aura of days gone by but the Lake McDonald Lodge is the most popular and requested facilities in the park.
Lake McDonald Lodge was constructed in 1913, only three years after Glacier National Park was established. Designed in the classic western style, the lodge served as a luxury stopover point for travelers, homesteaders, and migrant workers alike. Legendary hotelier John Lewis spent a small fortune developing his lodge into a regional standby. Restaurants like Russell's Fireside Grill add to the popular style of the lodge today. Here you can lounge by the lake in a comfy over-stuffed chair on the veranda, and find goods at the camp store. At night, you can listen to park rangers give talks about local flora and fauna and get to know other park visitors as you arrange explorations of Glacier National Park's hidden treasures.
A total of 100 rooms are available through a combination of lodge, cottage and motel room accommodations. Main Lodge rooms are located on the second and third floors of the lodge. Cottage rooms are located in multi-unit cottage buildings in the forested area between the lodge and the motor inn, while motel rooms are tucked back in the trees near the camp store.
