Glacier National Park is truly a national gem. There is no place else on earth where you will find the serenity of mountain lakes and inspiring glacial peaks quite like it. Located in northwestern Montana, Glacier is naturally far from the hustle and bustle of common civilization. The air up here is perfectly clear and there is a sense of other-worldness that is unparalleled anywhere else on the continent.
If you want to travel to the park you will find that it is easy to access by car, train or plane. When the park was first established in 1910 Glacier's many visitors came mostly by train. The train stopped in Belton, which is now West Glacier. Their visitors would disembark the iron horse and trade it in for the living animal. Aside from hiking, horses or mules would carry visitors anxious to burrow deeper into the ever growing beauty of Glacier Park
In 1936, transportation was forever altered as the park acquired a fleet of red "jammer buses" that could carry folks through the park. The restored buses are still in use today and a big favorite among travelers. Built by the White Company for several national parks Glacier's fleet of these tour buses are thought to be the largest and oldest continually operating fleet of remaining White touring coaches.
The railroad still operates service in this area. This form of transportation can be a fun and unique part of your vacation. Alternatively, you can fly into the Kalispell airport which is about an hour away from the entrance of Glacier Park and rent a car. You can make a road trip to the park. Montana's roads are easy to traverse and there are many places of interest along the way.
