Summer Activities

Go swimming in the pool: Its a convenient and fun activity while staying at Sawtelle Mountain Resort to go swimming in the heated swimming pool. The new pool is fun for the whole family. After swimming, relax in one o the two jetted hot tubs.

Take a Walk: Go for lovely strolls through the woods or along the lakes and rivers.

There are a lot of wild flowers and wild life to see in and around Island Park.

Bicycle Riding: You can really enjoy yourself on a mountain bike. There are many roads and bike paths for you to take. When you ride mountain bikes you see much more in the same amount of time as walking and have a great time too. High Mountain Adventures rents mountain bikes.

ATV Riding: You can rent ATV's for a full day or just a half day. At High Mountain Adventures, they will outfit you with your own ATV, instruct you on how to drive them and give you a map of a variety of trails on which to ride. The guys at High Mountain Adventures can advise you about which trails to ride depending on the types of things you wish to see and do. There are trails that are perhaps more enjoyable to ride if you want to ride fast and there are other more scenic trails where you can view some of the most beautiful country in Island Park.

Boating and Jet Skiing: Boats and Jet Skis can be rented to ski, fish or just to cruise around the lakes.Island Park Reservoir and Henry's Lake, are both within 10 minutes or so of High Mountain Adventures. Both lakes have easy access and offer you a wonderful time.

Fishing: Renowned Henry's Lake boasts of cutthroat trout larger than three pounds and sometimes as big as twelve pounds. Island Park Reservoir has good trout fishing as well. The fingers area of Island Park reservoir is a popular place to catch trout. The many rivers and streams like the picture to the left also offer great fishing. At High Mountain Adventures you can rent boats, canoes or even pontoon boats if you'd like to fly fish the lakes and rivers as many do. Canoeing or Kayaking: High Mountain Adventures rents Canoes or Kayaks for you to take on self guided excursions down various stretches of the local rivers. Or if you prefer, you can just take them out on either Island Park Reservoir or Henry's Lake. Island Park rivers vary from slow meandering to white water. Before just setting off on your own, be sure to ask at High Mountain Adventures about the water conditions of the river.

Tube Floating: Some outrageous fun can be had simply by floating down the rivers in Island Park on tubes. High Mountain Adventures rents float tubes just for this fun activity. Be sure to ask at High Mountain Adventures where the best places to tube float are, just so you don't end up on a rock in the middle of a river.

Winter Activities

Island Park is beautiful in winter as well as summer.

For many, it is winter when Island Park is at its best! There's practically as much to do in winter as summer or at least as much fun.To really enjoy it, rent a sled (snowmobile) and get out in it. Sawtelle Mountain Resort includes a complete itinerary of winter recreational packages and plenty of truck and trailer parking.

Their convenient snowmobile rentals are the perfect way to enjoy over 1,500 miles of groomed trails that the Island Park area has to offer. Start right outside the lodge's own front door and enjoy the greatest mountain riding in the western United States. The deep powder and awesome scenery is a breathtaking experience.

For the cross country enthusiast, there are over 75 miles of groomed trails including those in Harriman State Park and Targhee National Forest. Enjoy the abundance of wildlife in their natural environment as you experience winter in a whole new way. Excellent snow pack and sunny skies are usually prevalent through the month of March.
