Rock Harbor Lodge

Only accessible by boat or seaplane, Isle Royale is located on Lake Superior, just southeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario.  Visitors come year after year to paddle the inland waterways, hike the miles of trails, venture along the coast, and explore the deep sea shipwrecks just offshore.  Park wildlife includes moose, wolves, loons, beaver, fox, and many others.  Encompassing 850 square miles, it is 45 miles long and about 9 miles wide.  It lies approximately 55 miles from Michigan's Keewenaw Peninsula and about 22 miles from the Canadian shore.  Carved by the ancient glaciers that eventually formed the Great Lakes, Isle Royale is full of small lakes and inland waterways.  The park is open from April 16 to November 1.

 

 

Isle Royale is accessible via seaplane or by boat.  The National Park Service provides transportation for a fee aboard the Ranger III June 2 through September 12, departing from Houghton, Michigan.  Visitors can expect to arrive at Rock Harbor about 6 hours after they depart from Houghton.  There are other commercial vessels which provide transportation to the island as well.

 

Rock Harbor Lodge is located on the northeast shore of Isle Royale in Lake Superior.  If you are looking for unique lodging location, this is it! Rock Harbor Lodge is the only lodging facility on the island.

 

Rock Harbor Lodge offers cottages and lodge rooms as well as a dining room, snack bar, gift shop, dockside store, marina, rental boats, kayaks, and canoes, guided fishing and sightseeing tours.

Cottages

 

The 20 Cottages are located between the Rock Harbor Marina and Tobin Harbor. The Cottages are equipped with kitchenettes including utensils and dishware, a private bath with tub, shower and dressing room, one double bed and one bunk bed, linens, towels, electric heat and a studio type living area.

 

A stay in one of our comfortable Cottages includes one half-day use of a canoe.

 

Cottage guests are welcome to dine in the Rock Harbor Lodge dining room, purchase food in the marina store or bring their own food. Maid service is not provided.

Lakeside Lodge Rooms

There are 60 lodge rooms available, and each will accommodate 4 people.  Each room offers a private bath, a Lake Superior view and a 1/2 day use of a canoe.

 

 

Lodge guests are welcome to dine in the Rock Harbor Lodge dining room, which is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Rates are based on double occupancy. Lodge rooms accommodate a maximum of four persons.

 

Taxes	6% sales, 3% room assessment, 22% utility fee (included in rates)
Cancellation Policy	90% of the deposit will be refunded if the reservation is cancelled at least 5 days prior to arrival.
