Gardens
From the front gates that feature numerous ornamental Cherry trees, Magnolias and Pacific Dogwoods that come alive in the early spring and set the tone for a memorable visit. View the Weeping Willows on the lakefront that were planted approximately 65 to 70 years ago by the original General Manager, Miss Marguerite de Gussemé. Inside the grounds, the natural mineral hot spring pools are surrounded by original growth Cedars, Vine Maple trees, vibrant Ferns and extensive Ivy (Hedera Helix), Huckleberry and beds of Japanese Anemones. Rhododendrons 20 years old provide exotic colours in spring as they thrive in this oasis like environment. In the midst of the pool is a large timber bridge intersected with Cedars and hosts of large hanging baskets filled with Petunia, Verbena and a wide variety of trailing flowers (Fuschia, Coleus etc.). Around the lap pool, and Healing Springs Spa ornamental grass thrives amongst beds of Perennials and colourful flowers. Take a walk out to the back gardens under the Wisteria vines that flower in the spring and were originally planted almost 40 years ago. Our squirrels feast upon a variety of Hazelnuts and Chinese Fir cones. In the back gardens you will find rare Copper Beech, Scots Pine, Ailanthus Altissima (tree of heaven) and Locust trees amongst the California Poppies, Foxgloves, Waterlilies, Hosta, varieties of Bamboo and various types of Rhododendrons and Azaleas. The Japanese gardens were originally built almost 50 years ago and feature a water fountain that is surrounded with numerous Ferns, Ivies, Iris, Lavender and our famous female Ginko Bilboa tree. Gnarly Japanese Maples show their form and age and the unique trimming of the surrounding European Beech trees make this a must visit when strolling the lakefront. The car park area features large Black Oak trees and, toward the cabins, Ponderosa Pines and Golden Larch. Our nature trail walk features second growth Cedars, Fir, Pine, Hemlock, Maple, Alder, wild Cherry and Douglas Fir, naturalized with Salal Ferns and native plants, including Skunk Cabbage, wild Forget-Me-Nots and Devil's Club. These are only a few of the natural wonders, which create the clean healthy environment for which we are famous. Future plans to remodel and enhance the gardens are under way with the guidance of Fraser Valley's gardening expert, Brian Minter. |
