Glacier Park Whitewater Rafting

whitewater rafting glacier parkGlacier National Park is uniquely bordered on its west and south borders by the North Fork and the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. This creates a whitewater rafting opportunity you won't want to miss. Most of the whitewater occurs on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. The most common float is a nine mile stretch from Moccasin Creek to the West Glacier take-out. This exciting stretch has nine named rapids, rated class III-IV during highwater and class II-III once the river levels off. With names like Bone Crusher, Pinball and Jaws, you know you are in for a thrill. Whitewater rafting is an exhilarating experience fun for the whole family.

Other float trips are offered to meet your specific needs. Scenic floats are serene and relaxed and offer a great way to feel the excitement of floating on a mighty river, yet mild enough to allow for photos and birdwatching. Scenic floats are offered as a half or full day floats for those who want a mellower river experience. Whitewater trips are also offered as full-day trips, with a buffet style deli lunch along the blue-green glacially fed Flathead River (scenic full day trips also include a deli lunch). Half day dinner floats can either feature the whitewater or the scenic section followed by a delicious BBQ'd feast on the river bank.

Many guests to Glacier National Park hunger for a river trip that really lets them get away from it all. Overnight trips are an awesome way to lengthen your Glacier Park and Flathead River experience. One, two and three night float trips are exciting adventures where you float a good part of the day, camp is set up in the late afternoon and delicious gourmet meals are prepared by your capable guide. Guests will enjoy river sunsets and cozy campfires and your guide will do all the work. Guests will be able to fish, swim or explore during camp. Four and five night float trips are also available but access to the put-in location is by horse or plane only. This addition adds to the cost, but will forever change your life. All overnight float trips will be unforgettable experiences that will give you a whole new perspective on Glacier National Park.

There are also combination trips offered that pair river rafting with other awesome Glacier Park activities. You can combine either whitewater or scenic rafting with horseback rides, fishing trips or even a Lake McDonald boat tour. Glacier Park visitors can get the best of both activities on a combination trip.
