Located on the western side of Glacier National Park, Lake McDonald Lodge, which first opened in 1914, rests on the shores of Lake McDonald, the deepest lake within Glacier National Park. The lodge is also an essential stop as it is on the western end of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of the most scenic drives in the United States.
This historic lodge offers 100 rustic guest rooms with different lodging options for the many visitors including- great, cozy rooms located within the main lodge, a two-story motel inn hidden behind large trees with easy walking access to the Lake McDonald Campstore and duplex-style cabin accommodations.

In the main lodge, you will be welcomed by a great open lobby with inscribed messages from the local tribe, the Kootenai. There is no elevator inside the lodge however, there are bell staff to assist the guests in many ways. All lodge rooms have a private bathroom. Most lodge rooms do not have access to an exterior balcony but rather have a view of the forests that surround the lodge.
The Motor Inn has two, 2-story buildings that are nestled behind trees and is located about 300 yards from the Main Lodge. The second story is accessible by stairs only. There are no motel rooms that are connected and all of the motel rooms have a private bathroom.

The cabins have small and large options, from duplex to six-plex types. The cabins are located just down a pathway from the Main Lodge and are surrounded by a forest setting with just a few steps away from Lake McDonald. All cabin rooms have a private bathroom and also shares a common wall while some also share a porch with no connecting doors to cabin rooms.
There are a few dining options at Lake McDonald including the Russell's Fireside Dining Room located inside the lodge. The dining room has a Breakfast Buffet open from 6:30AM to 10AM, along with full lunch and dinner menus. Lunch is available from 11:30AM to 2PM and dinner is available from 5PM to 9:30PM.

Lucke's Lounge is the bar located next to the dining room and offers an open view of Lake McDonald with outdoor seating. It offers a bar menu along with a full bar for drinks. It is opened from 11:30AM to Midnight and has a bar menu and a full bar.
Jammer Joe's Grill and Pizzeria is located across the parking lot from the Main Lodge. It is a family styled restaurant opened from 11:30AM to 9:30PM. There is an all-you-can-eat pasta, pizza and salad buffet along with lunch and dinner menus.

"When I think of Glacier National Park, I imagine snow capped mountains, deep azure lakes and baby blue skies. I think of robins feeding their young in trees, squirrels fighting over the last nut, and mountain goats blissfully sunning themselves on the rock cliffs. There is also one hotel that comes to mind, a place where you can see it all. It is called Lake McDonald Lodge. Although this historic lodge is nestled on the shores of Lake McDonald, there are no guaranteed rooms with lake views! It is all due to the fact that the trees on the shore have grown so tall, that they almost completely obscure the lodge from the lake. however, that does not mean that you cannot reach the shore by footpaths. There are multiple wooden paths to the shore, and from there you can see the mountains across the lake. It is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery. Grab a book and a camera, and come stay at Lake McDonald Lodge for your visit to Glacier National Park."
"My grandparents brought my mother here when she was a little girl, and she's the one who introduced me to it many years later. Not only did we stay here on vacation but it was a fantastic place for our 2007 family reunion! The Main Lodge rooms are very cozy but we loved our cabins! The cabins are just a short stroll down the footpath from the main lodge although they don't have a view of Lake McDonald you can get there in just a minute or two.
I have to admit that I spent almost as much time in the gift shop as I did in our room, but you just can't miss out on some of the great gifts to take back home. And if you're looking for a 'Taste of Montana' you've got to stop in to the Russell's Fireside Dining Room for some lunch or dinner...you won't want to miss out on a glass of beer made locally that you won't find anywhere else!
With all sorts of activities right at the lodge you could spend your entire vacation right here, Lake McDonald Lodge is a rare treasure that you'll want to come back to every summer!"
