Whitefish Mountain Resort

Whitefish Mountain ResortWinter

The Whitefish Mountain Resort is the second largest ski area in the state of Montana, second only to Big Sky Ski Resort south of Bozeman.

Whitefish Mountain (formerly known as Big Mountain) has been satisfying ski enthusiasts for more than sixty years since it’s original opening day on December 14, 1947.

The vertical drop of the ski area is an impressive 2353 feet, with a summit elevation of 6817 ft. and a base of 4464 ft. Whitefish Mountain receives on average more 300 inches of snowfall annually and is know for it’s signature snow ghosts – trees that get so inundated with frost and snow that they become cocoons of snow and ice, barely distinguishable as trees any more.

Olympic champion Tommy Moe learned to ski and race at the mountain, where his father was on the ski patrol. Moe won the gold medal in the Downhill and silver in the Super-G at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.
