Canyon de Chelly is the nation’s second largest canyon. It is filled with the history of generations of Native Americans and is a true treat if you have to opportunity to visit this desert location. The only hotel inside the canyon is Thunderbird Lodge. Outside the canyon entrance there are many options for lodging, as well as several campgrounds within the park if you are into “roughing it.” Many canyon visitors come here to camp, hike, fish, explore and to experience the unique environment only found in the American Southwest and its deserts. Campgrounds

Cottonwood Campground has an elevation 5,540 feet. It is 1/2 mile south of the Visitor Center. This campground is open year round on a first-come first-served basis. From April to October facilities include flush toilets, picnic tables and drinking water. There are no shower facilities. No fee required.

Group tent camping is available for 15-25 people in organized groups by reservation only.

 

Hotels

Thunderbird Lodge is a popular sight. It is the only hotel within canyon boundaries and offers various tours, including the popular Thunderbird Jeep Tour.

 

Canyon de Chelly Inn is at the mouth of the canyon. While at the Inn you will enjoy comfortable, southwestern style, spacious rooms, an indoor pool and close proximity to all Canyon de Chelly has to offer.
