The Ten Bits Ranch is situated in the high Chihuahuan Desert in far west Texas within the heart of the great bend of the Rio Grande River. The landscape of Big Bend is the result of millions of years of mountain building, volcanism, faulting and erosion. Desert flats give way to yawning canyons, lofty peaks and the winding Rio Grande River. At an elevation of 3200’, the Ten Bits Ranch is situated deep within this rugged, desert mountain country. From a low of 1800’ along the Rio Grande, elevations exceed 7000’ within the high Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park.

Daytime temperatures at the Ranch average around 60 degrees in winter but can exceed 110 during the hot summer months. Spring and autumn temperatures can fluctuate dramatically but highs are usually in the 70’s and 80’s with lows from the 30’s to 50’s. Annual rainfall averages a scant 8 inches but luckily, desert storms do produce intense, nourishing cloudbursts, mostly during the summer months.

The Ten Bits Ranch is located only 15 minutes north of the Big Bend National Park west entrance. Also within easy driving distance are Big Bend Ranch State Park, the annual Terlingua Chili Cook-off (held in November) and the historic Terlingua Ghost Town along with conveniences such as fuel, groceries, banking, and postal facilities. Other regional attractions include the town of Alpine and Sul Ross State University, McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis historic site and the Marfa Mystery Lights. All are within an hour’s drive or so from the Ranch. The nearest official U.S./Mexico border crossing - at the town of Presidio - is also only an hour’s drive away along State Highway 170, considered to be the most scenic route in Texas.

Accommodations

Themed around the old west town of “Chimney Rock”, the Ten Bits Ranch provides accommodations for up to ten guests. Each guest room is designed to be a part of an old west town so your vacation may include a stay in the Bank, Gunsmith, School house or General Store. All four guest rooms have plenty of space, a private bath, spacious covered porch and gas log fireplace. Ten Bits' secluded location is perfect for those wishing to experience solitude and wide open spaces or for an exclusive gathering of friends or business associates. Smoking is not permitted in any Ten Bits Ranch facility.

Ten Bits also strives to maintain its unique identity as a remote, expedition outpost. Guest telephone service is only available via the house phone located in the cantina. Local calls are not charged however long distance calls require guests to have access to a phone calling card or major credit card. TV service is not available at the ranch, however wireless internet access is available for those with a laptop computer.

Meals:

The Ten Bits Ranch offers a continental breakfast daily, which includes muffins, fresh fruit, pastries, bagels, cereal, and other goodies to get you started. Beverages include coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and orange juice. For meals we recommend the Chile Pepper Cafe, Ghost Town Cafe, Long Draw Pizza, Roadrunner Deli, Phat Cafe, Starlight Theater, and Tivo's Mexican food.

Policies - Rules - Discounts

Check-In time is 3:00 PM and Check-Out is 11:00 AM. We advice you arrive during daylight hours.

Because we are an off-the-grid facility, T.B. R. is not responsible for damage that may occur to unauthorized electrical equipment used by guests at our facility.

A minimum age of 10 years is required in order to stay at the Ranch. If you bring a child under this age, without prior approval, you will not be allowed to stay and the cancellation policy will still apply.

All facilities and rooms are smoke free. Smoking is only permitted outside. Please dispose of smoking materials in a responsible manner. A $75.00 fee will be charged for smoking within any guest room or Ranch Facility.

A 10% discount is also available for groups of 8 or more or those who wish to reserve the Ranch exclusively for their party.

It is the responsibility of our guests to repair or replace any items damaged as a result of their stay at T.B.R. A minimum of $25.00 will be charged to the credit card T.B.R. has on file for the responsible party. Damages exceeding this amount will be charged accordingly. Furthermore, it is the responsibility for our guests to replace any items missing from the guest rooms or the T.B. R. facility as a result of their stay (for example: towels, pillows, doormats, pictures, window coverings, soap dish, furniture, etc.). There will also be a minimum fee of $25.00 to replace missing items unless the cost of replacement exceeds this amount in which case, replacement costs will be charged accordingly (which may also include shipping/travel expenses).
