Activities at Lajitas
At Lajitas, you may do as much or as little as you like, but you’ll never be without something to do if you so please. Relax at the swimming pool, curl up for an afternoon nap or take advantage of the varied amenities at Lajitas including the Ambush Golf Course, Agavita Spa, Lajitas Stables, Hunt Club, La Playa Preserve, Boardwalk shops, and Red Rock Outfitters.
Up to five resort activities are offered everyday. You may learn how to bullwhip at the Equestrian Center, putt like a pro at the Ambush Golf Course, or create culinary classics with our chefs. Go on fossil explorations, take a historical tour of Lajitas, or identify birds unique to the Big Bend region at our La Playa Preserve. Nightly entertainment is offered at the Thirsty Goat Saloon with guitarist Cowboy Doug. The resort activities menu changes monthly.
Golf
Ambush at Lajitas

This championship, 18-hole golf course is every bit as unique as Lajitas itself. The Ambush plays to 7,042 yards from the back tees and features four holes on an island in the Rio Grande. The difficulty of this Bechtol Russell course is deceiving as it increases in difficulty from hole to hole.
International golf has new meaning with Hole 11A—a par one in Mexico. For a lucky few, an international hole-in-one is not only a challenging feat but a great story to tell back home.
Adjacent to the Ambush Clubhouse are the driving range and practice greens where ProV1 practice balls are the Ambush standard. The professional staff of Ambush Golf Club is available for assistance and lessons upon request.
Biking
Short and long rides are available around the trails of Lajitas. Red Rock Outfitters may also help you coordinate an exhilarating ride into Big Bend National Park.
Hunting
Remarkable Dove Hunting:
Row after row of milo, millet, and sunflower stalks, attract an abundance of white-wing dove to the 650-acre Lajitas Hunt Club. In addition to remarkable dove hunting, the Hunt Club includes "luxury" bunkhouse accommodations, a full bar, a commercial kitchen, seating for up to 65, and a screened porch with shuffleboard.
The cost is $275pp for a half-day hunt and $500 for a full-day hunt. Half-day hunts are either morning or evening with the appropriate meal, beverages and a hunt attendant provided per hunter. Full-day hunts include breakfast and a gourmet lunch as well as beverages and a hunt attendant per hunter. This attendant carries the ammunition, picks up the shell casings, cleans the game and always available to hand you an ice-cold beverage. White-wing dove hunts are available from September through October.
Tennis
Lajitas is proud to announce plans for the upcoming Ambush Clubhouse—a 30,000-square-foot facility scheduled to break ground at the end of 2005. Located behind the current Ambush pro-shop, the new clubhouse will be home to a two-lane lap pool, large swimming pool and jacuzzi, clubhouse café, fitness center, tennis center, member locker rooms, meeting facilities, and the 12,000-square-foot Agave Spa.
The Lajitas Tennis Center will be home to three hard-surface courts. Created especially for tournaments, the Grand Viewing Court will be surrounded by stadium seating, and evening play will be facilitated with superb lighting. The tennis shop will house a water bar and an array of top-of-the-line items including rackets, balls, and clothing. Men’s and women’s locker rooms will be located within the Ambush Clubhouse scheduled to open in 2008.
