The Captain Isaac Merrill Inn & Restaurant is a Maine Bed and Breakfast Inn offering lodging accommodations, vacation packages, delicious Maine Lobster Bakes, Gourmet Breakfast, Fine Dining, and Personal Service. This Beautiful Maine Inn is located in the sea coast Village of Blue Hill, on Blue Hill Bay, in the heart of Down East Maine, 45 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Florence Jane, Great Granddaughter of Captain Merrill, and a direct descendant of Elder Brewster of the Mayflower Pilgrims, extends a warm welcome to all her guests and families from around the world.
Built in the federal style, in 1830, the house was the home of Captain Isaac Merrill, a Sea Captain who was still sailing at the age of seventy. In 1996 the great granddaughter of Captain Merrill, Jane Hemmerly-Brown and her husband Dan restored and renovated the house and original barn, creating a family owned, historic country Inn. Enjoy complimentary afternoon tea in the flowering courtyard garden after a day spent exploring the area. Explore the charm of Blue Hill and Castine, with their art galleries, potteries, antique and gift shops, or the stark beauty of Stonington with its fishing fleet at anchor, or discover the grandeur of Acadia National Park on Mt Desert Island, with its fjord, sand beach, rocky inlets and the bustling scenic town of Bar Harbor, or perhaps sail the pristine waters of Penobscot Bay, amid islands sprinkled with mussels, nesting birds and sunbathing seals. In the evening, take in a concert of chamber music, attend a play, or eat Maine Lobster in Captain Merrill’s Restaurant where you can savor their favorite Down East dishes made with food supplied by local farms and fishermen. You will sleep well and awake refreshed to breakfast on blueberry pancakes and much more…
The Captain's Room

The graceful bedroom of Captain Isaac Merrill, on the 2nd floor, overlooks the town. Original, wide pumpkin-pine floor boards, reveal the hand made nails of long ago…. The Four Poster queen bed is adorned with a delicate macramé canopy. The fireplace remains unchanged from when it was built in 1830, working now with gas logs. Large windows built by ships carpenters surround the room, giving it the feel of the master’s cabin in a grand sailing ship.
In order to maintain the integrity of the room, a very small “water closet”, containing the toilet & sink, has been installed. The tub/shower is in the bedroom, beside the fireplace, hung with curtains, giving the experience of living in an 1800’s house. Please consider these bathroom facilities carefully when booking this room for parties who are not related.
The Julia Elizabeth Room

Named after one of Captain Merrill’s Ships, this elegant room has original wide pumpkin-pine floor boards, the 1830 fireplace, with gas logs installed, a Four Poster queen-size bed, and a well appointed private bath.
The Parlor

Situated on the first floor at the front of the house, the Parlor was the “receiving room” for guests.
It has four large windows looking over the charming little village.
The room has a Four Poster Queen sized bed, and a single sleeper couch. It is delightfully accented by the original fireplace, now working with gas logs. Like the Captains room, in order to maintain the integrity of the house, minimum changes have been made, adding a small private bathroom. The bath tub and shower is in the room by the fireplace. Please consider these bathroom facilities carefully when booking this room for parties who are not related.
The Courtyard View Room

A charming room looking onto the flowering courtyard garden. With wide pine board floors, original fireplace, now working with gas logs, a Queen sized Sleigh Bed, plus a double-size pull out couch, and a private hall bath across the hall, for your exclusive use. (Captain Merrill Inn Bathrobes are supplied).
The Mountain View Room

Peeking at Blue Hill Mountain, this room has a private entrance at the back of the house. Windows overlook the courtyard. There is a Four Poster Queen sized bed, fireplace and a private bath.
The Magnolia

A Jewel of a little room overlooking the courtyard at the back of the house. Named for the 1st three- masted schooner to be built in America, in Blue Hill, by the Father in law of Captain Merrill... The room contains a Double-size antique bed, and a private bathroom.
